ESPN says the Phil's owner fired their manager over the protests of the front office. Seems like a recipe to guarantee they won't get a good manager. Unless someone was desperate, why would they take that slot?

I suspect, if history is an indicator, that the Rays' owner will do something equally annoying.:banghead:

Players for the most part are not going to do it. Shame. It would make the defense shift back.

hitting to all fields is at a premium, but less so than hitting home runs, esp. the past 5 years or so.

John Farrell has docked his lobster boat and is ready to go back to a dugout as a manager or pitching coach.

Schill would consider a pitching coach assignment, I don't see that happening either - too many experienced coaches looking for jobs.

If Philly is looking for a Desperate Disciplinarian (great name for band!), ex-Sox manager Farrell would be perfect. He is so desperate he'd change his name to Pharrell, if need be.
