I can only imagine what it sounded like when that fly ball was caught! It's been awhile, 2009, but the Phillies are going. I can't wait.

Hard to root phillies but THANK YOU for sending Machado and his no-hustle butt packing. Too bad the Yankees faceplanted at home, and we have to endure the Astros.

The Phillies are World Series bound. I don't think anyone would have predicted that pre-season. And they haven't lost a home game in the playoffs. To think that last year they wouldn't have been in the playoffs with their record. I'm liking the expanded playoff idea. It can create some interesting situations. Like this one.
Yeah, I'm right there with you. Phillies-Astros is a no brainer for me. Phillies all the way.
I am also hoping for a Phillies win for the WS. I will never forgive those cheating Astros during the season of 2017. They tarnished MLB in my opinion.

I am conflicted by this World Series match up. I definitely have American League bias, so part of me thinks I should cheer for the Astros. I also appreciate it when the "better team" wins it all at the end of the season. Going by the regular season results, the 'Stros are the better team. But I also definitely have East coast bias, and I sometimes prefer to cheer for underdogs, so the other part of me wants to cheer for the Phils. Maybe I'll just skip the WS and shift my focus to the Raptors...

Big Phils fan here, and I have a special dislike for the Astros. The cheating is part of it, but in some years when the Phils were on the edge of making the playoffs and the 'Stros were terrible, they would somehow beat the Phils and knock them out. I believe I was at one of those games. Drove me nuts. (Houston did deserve a break after Hurricane Harvey, so the 'Stros 2017 Series win had a silver lining at the time, even for me, though it was later tarnished by the cheating. Ugh.)
Anyway, here's Broad Street in Philly last night. If they win the Series, it will be insane, like it was in 2008. I was at Game 5 when they won it all, and after the game I walked all the way up Broad Street to Center City. It was awesome.

The insinuation that the Astros were the only team stealing signs in 2017 and that MLB was somehow on the "up and up" before the 2017 scandal is naivety at best.

I understand how some people feel about hustle, and I agree that it can look bad at times, but I suppose I look at it a bit differently. IMO a lot of the hustle you see, like running hard down the line on an obvious ground out, is nothing more than eyewash. Guys want to look like they're trying hard. I think a big leaguer generally has a very good idea of their odds of reaching base right after the ball leaves the bat, and I would trust an experience ball player to know when to turn it on or not. I won't hold it against a guy for not sprinting at top speed down the 1B line on a grounder hit directly at the 3B or SS. I think it's better to keep that energy in the tank for when it will matter more at a different part of the game/season. Machado is a very dependable player, having played at least 150 games every season since 2015 (and all 60 in the weird 2020 season). He's out there on the field everyday. In an average 162 game season, he'll hit .280, OPS over .800, sock 30 dingers, drive in over 90 runs, and play respectable defense at 3B. He's a really good player! A clear upgrade over many other teams' third baseman IMHO. He gives his team way more with his bat and glove than what he might rarely take away by not always hustling. Just my 2 cents
Nobody would have predicted that at the beginning of the playoffs. They did everything they could to hand that last spot to the Brewers, but they wouldn't bite. They definitely got hot at the right time. I'm glad to see them in the WS.
