As a SFGiants fan I was embarrassed by Bonds. He was a PED user and a prima donna. The Giants never won a world series with him in the lineup. When he was gone and they became a real "team" they started winning championships. I hope Bonds never makes the HOF and I wouldn't have a problem if they took his home run record away

agreed, of course. and that is why it makes sense to me to agree that the '17 title should be vacated. the astros cheated, and that team should not be awarded.

the real issue is manfred's mishandling of the matter. seeing the red sox's and the yankees' own scandals swept aside in the name of $$$$ is irritating. and of course, fans continuing to bring vitriol against the laundry when the involved players are mostly out of the league or playing for other teams is both unintelligent and irrational. hearing yankees fans chant vulgarities like "**** altuve" when the team they support cheated and when altuve himself didn't cheat is ironically ludicrous.

i get it. fans don't want to think; they want to have a good time in a vicarious tribal warfare. sometimes it turns vicious and some get pushed down stairs or shot in a parking lot. so it goes.

and so this emotional anger happens every year it seems, and will for another century i reckon.

Altuve may be the Shoeless Joe Jackson of our time. Both are being tarred with things they knew about but didn't participate in.

As a casual observer, to me it looks like the powers that be took the steps they took , and rightly so, but they did not investigate further into cheating by MLB as a whole. Why?


By not taking action on the league itself or having investigations at all, the image of MLB being "pure", for lack of a better word, could be maintained.



It's all about $$$$$$.




And Yanks fans would chant "**** Altuve" , scandal or no. It's what they do.

Seattle fans used to chant "Yankees suck" until the Mariners' brass asked them not to. Given the opportunity, we probably would start that chant up again, especially if it was in a post-season series. Is it too soon for me to start getting excited about 2023?

i am on record stating that the 2017 title should be vacated. i don't recognize it myself. astros are 0-3 in world series. it'd be nice to win one.

^^ exactly. no, jomboy, no buzzer. the buzzer system is actually the system the yankees were using, and perhaps the red sox, in previous years, however. the astros were using cameras, cctv, and banging on cans.

unless one is into conspiracy theories, and then anything one wishes to believe is so 8-)

just one series left for me, and then i will think about next season 8-) it's been 42 years since the astros first playoff appearance, against the phillies. a real heartbreaker.

^^ i'm pretty sure plake is referencing the 2019 buzzer conspiracy investigated by mlb. the idea that [so-called] cheating astros would lose 4 home games in the world series to the nationals makes no sense, though. altuve, a career .300 hitter with some power, went .278 with one double at home in the
'19 world series. not the stats of someone of his talent would achieve if cheating ... which he wasn't. the stats don't bear out the conspiracy.
Nor does it make sense that, if altuve were cheating by wearing a buzzer in 2019, that none of his teammates did it or even knew about it and had to be warned not to expose him in real time. their behavior makes no sense whatsoever if they actually knew altuve had a buzzer. c'mon, he's not gonna signal himself! the behaviors don't bear out the conspiracy.
and finally, seems like if manfred had the chance to go after altuve and the astros with evidence, why would he not? they're already the most hated team in sports, it'd make him and baseball look good and even enrichen some deep pockets by getting the yankees to advance. it's because there is no evidence for the thing that did not occur.) i consider it more likely that they'd try to plant something on him! so the investigation didn't bear out the conspiracy.

very silly stuff, but such is the pariah manfred wrought. there is some projection at work as well; buzzing devices were what the yankees and red sox were using in 2017. one knows they are the most hated team in sports when people are mad they defeated the yankees over and over again.

i'll check back in after the series, y'all. thanks for the civil discourse and rational exchanges. :cool:
