MLB 2024

The headache inducing level of crowd noise during some of the broadcasts is really annoying. Watching a game now that we cannot turn up enough to really hear the announcers without wincing from the crowd noise.
Normal crowd noise is fine with me, it's the leather-lunged losers that have figured out where the mic's are and are constantly screaming just so all the folks back at home can bask in their aural glory that I can't stand. Please, STFU and STFD!

A minor complaint in the general scheme of things, but I really dislike all-star jerseys. Wearing your team's actual jersey is better IMHO.
I’m not a huge fan of the All-Star jerseys either. But the league of course wants something new to sell. I guess somebody actually buys them! 🤣

Vlad Jr. is the All-Star starter at 1B for the AL. That’s nice to see. One little victory for the Jays in a frustrating-so-far 2024. He’s been on fire lately at the plate. I hope Vlad does the HR Derby again this year too. He will put on a show.

The Jays managed a 2-2 series split against the Yanks last weekend… then dropped a series 1-3 against Houston this week. Including a Canada Day loss. I swear those red Canada Day jerseys are cursed.

At least Vladdy’s an All-Star.

All I’ve got to look forward to this season are transactions. Bring on the trade deadline and then the off-season hot stove!

I hope he lands on the Mariners before the trade deadline. Only issue is that the Jays would probably take most of the Mariners' best prospects to let that happen. Mortgaging the future is not a movie I want to watch again.

I’ll definitely jump on the M’s bandwagon come postseason time. Even better if there are some Blue Jays on the M’s roster!

But I am feeling doubtful Vlad gets moved at the deadline. His stellar play in recent weeks should have made it clear to the team he’s still a key building block for the next iteration of the Jays. If they entertain trade offers, I expect the asking price will be high.

Question is, what does Toronto want to do? They are unlikely to get above 4th place in the division for the next five years. Do they want to totally break it down, or pick a few people to build around?
A pretty big, very frustrated, chunk of the fanbase wants the team to absolutely tear it down and do a rebuild. I understand why some folks want that. This team has been pretty awful to watch. But I don't want this team to turn into the White Sox, so I hope the front office opts to not do that 😅

Many believe the team cannot afford to keep both Bo and Vlad once they start getting more expensive, as it would potentially be very limiting to the team's payroll flexibility. This is perhaps the biggest choice the F.O. needs to make soon-ish. I'm not sure they have to make that choice--but maybe they do. (If somebody has to go, I'd rather see Vlad stay and Bo go... but Bo's trade value ain't exactly high right now.) If either guy gets traded, it had better be for a too-good-to-refuse kind of offer.

I think some of the pitchers nearing the end of their deals, like Kikuchi, Bassitt, or a couple of the relievers, could be had via trade at this deadline as well. I'm not sure any team will want to pay up for longer term starters like Gausman or Berrios. I also doubt they'll trade any of the new crop of position players that have just started getting promoted to the bigs. And nobody is going to want Springer unless the Jays send money with him.

I understand that point of view but I tend to disagree with it. There’s no changing the division. That’s beyond the Jays’ front office’s control. The AL East is tough—but that’s not a good excuse to not try to field a competitive team IMO. Maybe it’s still only a fourth place team at the end of the day, but I would prefer to see them try to put a solid team out there instead of tank away a season and have a fire sale. Rebuilds don’t always work out as nicely as fans think they will.

I get you, but would you rather have a .500 team that maybe can compete for the third wildcard, or build something with a chance to win, like the Astros or Cubs?

In your shoes, I'd want them to sign Vlad and Bo (at a reasonable price), them dump everyone else and build around. Remember, no matter what, Vlad is going to get money. I'm guessing he won't want to stay unless he sees the team trying to win.

For my money, I’ll take the .500-ish team that can maybe make some noise in the postseason if things break right for them. If they really tear it down to the studs, it’s going to be a tough watch. Those Astros teams of the early 2010s, for example, were unwatchable during their rebuild. It’s a wonder they retained any fans! Winning heals all wounds.

I am hoping the team keeps Vlad and Bo, and the younger cohort of position players on the way up right now (Davis Schneider, Spencer Horowitz, Ernie Clement). They should have a few decent starters left next year as well (Berrios, Gausman, and Yariel Rodriguez). It’s a decent bunch of players to build around. But there will be lots of work to do to potentially make it work. They need a far better bullpen if they have any hope of being a Wild Card team that can actually go anywhere in October.

They took two of three in Seattle this weekend, so that’s nice to see! Springer hit a three-run homer. Up until very recently, he’s struggled hard this year. The bat is showing signs of life again lately. I’m not sure if it’s sustainable or if this is just a dead cat bounce. He has looked rather washed for much of 2024 😬

If there's a Mariners bandwagon to jump on by then. If they don't start hitting, there sure won't be. They are killing me!

The good news is that Julio isn't badly injured. He just isn't hitting. None of them are.

The issue is not just the team, it's the division. Baltimore is very young and talented. Yankees are a good team who will outspend almost anyone. Boston is improving. Tampa always find a way to win.

If they were in the Central Division, it would be different.
Or the west. The west is abysmal this year, with Oakland, Anaheim, and Texas all being pretty bad. Houston is back in it, though. The Mariners are giving me agita.
