Back in January I started thinking I wanted to get an actual fender jazz bass. My other electric basses are a high-end custom jazz and an 84 Ibanez Roadstar P-style bass. I did a bit of looking around and decided that I really wanted a Jino Jazz bass (not available in the US). But then after a bit more looking I decided I didn't like the color it came in or the price tag, and with Covid and all I wanted a real project.
After a little looking I found a nice 2014 MIM Jazz locally for a great price. I took it all apart, added paint and a hole for the MM pickup. Also swapped the bridge, pick guard, pickups and tuners. All in I probably spent about $1k.
The paint isn't perfect, but it's got a decent gloss to it. It's painted surf green nitro, though it looks blue in pictures.
It's all passive. 3 volume knobs.
It's also nice and light for if I ever play a gig with it.
Tonally it's really punchy, especially with a little of the MM dialed in.
All in all, I think it was more satisfying to customize it, rather than just buy what I wanted.
