I just bought a lightly used fretless VJ, passive with a chechen fingerboard and Nordstrand pickups on eBay. It'll be my second bass and my first fretless. I'm taking a bit of a risk with it, I've heard mixed opinions on VJ's and I've never tried one, but I'm excited. I'll have it in my hands on the 23rd.

Here's a picture:

Angus,

That is AMAZING! One of the best looking Modulus basses I have ever seen.

Here's hoping you get carpal tunnel and have to sell it (just kidding, dude!).

Seriously, let me know if you ever want to sell this thing. I would be VERY interested.

Enjoy!

Hahaha, hasn't even arrived yet!

I decided my last purchase for a long time is going to be going back to a Modulus, as I miss my Q5. So I ordered this. Though now I definitely need to make some space for it!

The EMG/EMG system is going to be promptly replaced with Lane Poors and an East U-Retro. If it doesn't sound quite right, I'll go back to Bartolini pickups.

This is the first tinted neck they've done in years, apparently.

Can't wait to try it out!

Don't get me wrong....(and I totally get your point).....

....I own 2 Modulus Quantums and they are my main basses. I will be adding 1-2 more ASAP also. I personally think Modulus is making the best basses for the $$$ available anywhere.

Having said that, attracting new buyers is easier with a profesional website... that is my only point. Not having a site of any kind for months? Not a chance that didn't affect Modulus' revenues. If they don't care, that is cool also... but I would guess that a company like Modulus would welcome growth.

Reputation and word of mouth only is great if you are Carl Thompson and a couple of other really small boutiques that have a 2-3 year waiting list.

Also, another comment was made below that Modulus was selling basses before the internet. I guess I agree with that, but not a great business strategy in this day and age IMO. Sam Ash and GC were also selling guitars before the internet... I am confident that they wouldn't be in business today (or at least as much smaller companies) if they didn't have websites.

Again, not bashing Modulus, just my opinion.

I hear You Man...That makes sense...Sorry for the delay response I have only been sporadically online with all the summer gigs going on (which I'm grateful for).

You have a point a solid website is needed for just about any business...Period.

Those guys have gone through a lot the past couple of years (without going into details) and really their focus was still make sure that their passes where as top notch as ever, and they are.

Q5s where my mains to over the years...I have come kind gone full circle and I'm back to Js,but VJs of course. ;)

Its all good...Peace :)

So I have posted my Quantum 5 in the classifieds. I don't really want to sell it, but I have other needs and no money. Since I have a 5 string fretless that I use a LOT, I have to part with this one.

It's in MINT condition! with Nordstrand Pups and Pre (installed at the Nordstrand Factory)

Here is the link

hit me up if anyone is interested!

I've never played a VJ, but I've played enough Modulus basses and passive Jazz Basses to wonder how a passive Jazz Bass with a Modulus neck could possibly be anything other than stellar?

Have both and really prefer the fretless VJ at the moment to the FU4. Not saying the FU4 is bad or anything, but that's where I'm at right now. Either way, they're both fantastic basses.

I wonder why you don't see any white VJs or Funks around. Would love to someday have my Stealth VJ (much like kinetics) and then a gloss white VJ with black hardware as it's alter ego. I know they have gloss white as an available color but i never see it around :(

Cool.:bassist:

Funny thing... I own some great basses and decided to leave my Modulus basses at home Tues night for rehearsal and bring a '78 Stingray and '73 Jazz. Man, was I unhappy with my sound. The SR and Jazz are both amazing sounding basses, but I am really stuck on that Modulus tone. My Quantums are the first basses out of the 60-70 I have owned over the last 5-6 years (damn you TB inspired GAS!) that really blow my mind.

I have never tried a VJ.... And the longer I avoid doing so, the longer I will likely still have $$$ in the bank!!:D
