Modulus Mob

I wonder why you don't see any white VJs or Funks around. Would love to someday have my Stealth VJ (much like kinetics) and then a gloss white VJ with black hardware as it's alter ego. I know they have gloss white as an available color but i never see it around :(

Kind of like Hutch! A Spy vs Spy motif.

Quick question, when it comes to the quantum do you guys generally prefer the emg or bart electronics, I went through two modulus basses recently one flea j5 and a vj4 both had bart set ups and were just too polite to my ears, yesterday I saw a nice 96 quantum on a wall at a GC and it was equipped with emg's and the tone seemed alot sharper more dynamic and alive to me. as I have been though two of these basses in the span of 3 months I am hesitant to go after another right now but any input here would be appreciated.

I had never been a EMG fan (actually hated them) until I played a Quantum. IME the EMGs are the best sounding pickups/pre available in a Quantum.

Both my Q4 and Q5 are EMG and I wouldn't buy a Modulus with anything else.

EMG just really works in Quantums IMO.

For me, EMGs in a Quantum is the least bad way to experience EMGs. But I still don't like them (and often hate them in other instruments).

I prefer Modulus's with Barts a million times over, but I prefer them with Lane Poor pickups a little more, even though they are totally different.

I agree 100%. Nice warm detailed organic... The complete opposite of what you would expect.

Kids, do not sell your Modulus basses. Ever.

My 92 Q5 came new with a bart setup, which I became unsatisfied with and wanted something different. Tried a Demeter pre first, then had a Sadowsky pre installed, after that changed pickups to Sadowsky soaps and that stayed for years. Decided too much highs/lows and not enough mids and tried a ACG-East Eq02 pre which was more like what I wanted but just bought new EMG 40DCs and BQS system, and am finally happy with the sound again.

Still my main bass after 20 years although I've owned a ton more. I dig the EMG sound on it, but I've heard old recordings I did 20 years ago with the original Bart setup and although a bit tamer still a great sound. I'd go Bart if you want a well rounded player, EMG for the modern edge sound :)

here's a pic when was still the 'modulowsky'

One of the best sounding basses I have ever heard/owned was a Roscoe SKB 5er with the Demeter Pre and Barts. Bet that combo would sound great in a Quantum!

I prefer the Barts if its a Barts VS EMG.

HOWEVER

Nordstrand does make replacment pickups in housings that are not offered on the website.

My main Modulus at the moment is a FU/Flea J5 with the Nordstrand 60s wind. So you can have all that classic wound sound with all that carbon fiber goodness. (They have that size on file)

They can do the soapbars as well. They just need to know the size of the pickup and the string spacing.

Modulus and Nordstrand pickups are an awesome combo.;)

More fotos? OK, here goes. Here is my used 2004 Quantum 5. I purchased it here a few months ago after hearing all the great things about them.

She's in great shape for an 8 year old bass and the blackstone finish is very very nice.

My main basses have been Rickenbackers and this is my first active and 5 string so I did not know what to expect. I swapped out the strings upon her arrival with a set of Circkle K .136 .106 .079 .059 .043 strings and it made a huge difference to the brightness of the sound. I was able to get a set of intonation adjustment screws for Hipshot to fit the two that were bent and mismatched. Still I was not overwhelmed with the sound. A forum member on another sight suggested I go over all the settings and after looking adjusting the EMG pup heights to factory specs, the sound came alive! While it does not sound like a Rickenbacker, I'm much happier with it now.

She is very comfortable to play and I'm very happy with her tone and output now!

One thing, She needs a treble side Gotoh tuner GB70 (chrome). I'm having a real tough time finding one to buy. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
