Modulus Mob

Hello to the Mob, this Q6 Spalted maple top is being dropped shipped to me directly form the modulus shop with the help of Grasshopper from Bass Central. These are the specs when finished:
Modulus Q6 Figured Spalted Maple top/Bartolini
Pickups/Aguilar OBP-3/Black Hardware

Wow! How much do the bodies run just themselves?

Just parted with my Modulus Flea 97 Blue flake, it now has a new home at the Chicago Music Exchange...now I realized I liked it better than the 03 I have now :/

I guess my new acquisitional goal is to find a Sunburst/Tobacco Funk Unlimited, I forgot how much I like natural wood tones

Anyone have experience withe 34" Q5s?

Obviously the B string might not be as tight, but is it nicely functional as with some other good 34" 5 string basses, e.g. Sadowsky, EBMM, et al?

I find a 34" bass much more comfy.

Hey Wally - I have a 2012 Q5 with a 34" scale neck. To me, the B is still quite monstrous... I've also A/B'd it against a 35" neck and don't really notice any looseness when going back to the 34".

Hey folks,
Just got this 2 days ago and I love it. I have always wanted a bass with a figured spalted maple top. When i called over to Bass Central, this was just being finished at the Modulus Shop, so a deal was struck, Barts with Aguiar OBP-3 preamp. Hope I passed the audition to join the Mob. Does anyone know what kind of strings are put on these instrument at the shop? Thanks.

Omg....awful, just awful. I think there is something wrong with it. I think you need to send it to me...to uh......fix.

Seriously, AWESOME!!! Love those splayed tops. Some of my favorite tops!!!!

If there was such thing as Play Modulus magazine this bass would be the centerfold for the month of September.

Thanks!

I went back and looked at your bass. Quite awesome. I didn't see a distracting knot in the photo.

So you went with the EMGs. Would like to hear your decision making process in choosing them over Bartolinis. I think I remember liking the EMG sound, but Barts seem to be overwhelmingly favored by the Modsters. Obviously, a "Gordo" fan is going to have a soft spot for EMG loaded Modulus ;-)

This sounds good to me!

Personally, I have always hated EMGs. Since I used to rip them out of my hair metal basses even 25 years ago when I was a teenager.

Having said that, I LOVE them in Modulus basses! No idea why, but they sound amazing. I have used Barts, Nordys, SDs, etc., and I wouldn't swap out my EMCs for any of them.

I agree! My Q5 came with barts new in 92, I then put a demeter pre- then sadowsky soaps- then changed to sadowsky pre-later went to an East pre- and finally last year bought a new set of EMGs and EMG pre and couldn't be happier with the sound!

Just got my Quantum 6, really like the light weight :) but the strings could well be the originals from '98. I was going to order a set of the Foodera medium nickels for it, but was also going to order a set of Sunbeams for my fretless and decided I would ask all you Quantum folks what strings you used.

Would the Sunbeams be a bit less bright than the Fodera nickel strings? What strings are you all using on your 6ers?

I use the D'Addario EXL's....which is what Modulus ships them out with from the factory.

Here is a link...keep in mind this is for 2 sets:

When I first got my Modulus (used) it had a new set of Elixirs on it...I remember liking them but that has been 8 years or so and I forgot what they felt and sounded like.
