Modulus Mob

I bought this bass NOS in 2002 and have loved it ever since. It is a rear routed VJ4 in gloss black with Bart pickups & a Bart NTBT preamp. It is a very unassuming looking instrument that has fit well in every musical situation I have encountered. I was recently inspired by Kinetic Shadows' new stealth fretless VJ and replaced all the original chrome hardware with black hardware.

I've owned a few basses over the years but this is the only instrument that I will never sell and it's the only one I currently own. I never worry about not having a back-up as my VJ4 is a true workhorse and has served me faithfully on stage and in the studio for 10 years. There is no question that the next bass I buy new will be another Modulus. I am really interested in the Funk Persuasion (basically an FU with a P pickup) and would love to own a Q4 someday.

Fclef,
I have that same bass (well close) mine is from 05 and I friggin love it. I've owned a number of Modulus basses and still prefer the ones with Barts. Normally, I've got my eq set close to flat on my bass, with a slight bass bump.
This one has the bart, with bart 2 band pre.

Ps. don't skin me man :)

Cool Man!
I too love my Modulus Q5 and would only sell it if my family's security was in jeopardy. :D

Thanks for sharing.

Very nice!

Thanks!

I typically run the EQ on mine flat and use an Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal as my pre-amp, I like the sweepable mids that the Aggy provides. Man, that quilted blueburst VJ is sweet!

Thanks! Yeah, there really is something special about my Modulus and it's good to see others feel the same way about theirs.

Thanks Angus!
I saw A Q6 in that blue burst once here on the classifieds and I wanted it in the worst way. I sold my Q6 a few years ago, but thankfully it's in the hands of one of the Modulus Mob. Loved the bass, but the spacing was just too tight. Joe Zon is building me a TJ6 with 19mm spacing so that will be my go to 6er once it's finished.

Fclef,
I use the TH500 for smaller gigs these days. Love the pre. In that vid I was using a Mesa walkabout scout, some dirt, and a looper. My VJ is a tank at a bit over 12lbs, but it really has great spank.

Very cool Modulii! Here is my Q5 hard at work... well after an early sound check anyway. I've got EMGs, and you can add me to the list of players who prefer them over Barts. To be fair I like them both just fine in a Quantum.

I had a chance to compare Barts to the EMG the other day in Quantums, and I must say that I prefer EMGs over Barts also.
The Barts sounded great, but the EMGs are more my style.....more punch and mid/upper harmonic content IMHO.
Having said that, If EMGs didn't exist, I would rather have a Quantum with Barts than have any other bass currently available today. :)

The next bass I get will probably be a Modulus VJ4.
Just wondering which pickups sound the best and wether to go full passive, or go passive pickups and the preamp option.
Thoughts?
Does anyone have any sound clips or links?
i will post a youtube clip from my upcomming concert on the 1st with my VJ in action. I am truly happy with my delano single coils and an acg eq02 in 18v.

Hey Y'all, I want to post something positive regarding Modulus' customer service.

Recently my stacked treble pot fell off my Q5 and was misplaced. I sent an email to Modulus CS and received a prompt reply from Joe Perman telling me to order the replacement part through All Parts and even included the link to guide me directly to the knobs section that Modulus uses on the Quantums (http://www.allparts.com/Black-Stacked-Knobs-p/mk-3320-003.htm). Great service. I, for one, have bashed them in the past for poor customer service (or no service or reply at all) and want to give them praise when they go above and beyond.
I emailed Joe back to thank him for his great service.

New workshop, facebook page, updated website- makes me happy:bassist:
