Modulus Mob

Pic for my Mob # :)

This is the Quantum 6 and my Aria Steve Bailey fretless

There is at least a 2 pound, maybe 3 pound difference in their weights! LOL

For Pickups I prefer Nordstrand with Barts second. Not an EMG fan persay but I like them in fretless basses.

Strings D'Addario EXLs as well.

Okay, I found one exception to liking Delano's on my Modulus basses.

I just installed a two humbucker in one Lane Poor MM in my FU4 and changed out the OBP-3 to a Mike Pope Flexcore 2.2stk for a two pickup bass. Now I can use the balance to select the neck/both/bridge side of the pickup or anywhere in between the two. One pickup with the versatility of two, now active/passive and it doesn't hurt that it has the clarity of a Lane Poor.

Had my 07 Flake blue FU 4 stolen a few weeks back. I try not to think about it too much. I've got my insurance money, but these things are a pain in the you know what to find (with depreciation, I did not get enough to come close to buying a new one). And there was nothing particularly exceptional about the bass I had as far as fu4's go, but you guys know, you want the want you had. Blurg. :bawl:

Does anyone know where there would be sound samples of Modulus Quantums that compare EMGs to Bartolini pickups?
I love the sound of the EMGs in my TBX, but am curious to hear the difference in a fair comparison played by the same person to rule out as many variables as possible.
Maybe someone out there has a few Quantums that may be willing to post a few samples..:D

I know this won't be a lot of help without some audio files, but figured I'll throw my 2 cents in. At one time, I had a Quantum 6 with Bartolini and a Quantum 5 with EMG. While I generally play 5 string, I played the 6 alot more with the Bartolinis. EMG's are very hot, bright pickups, and they came across too aggressive to me coupled with the graphite of the Modulus. The Bartolini's sound great. Very modern and articulate, with some inherent warmth. My Quantum 6 has Bart pickups and preamp, I have a Flea 5 MM+J that is Bart pickups with Aguilar OBP3 preamp, and a Flea 4 that is Bart pickup and preamp. Only Modulus I own that isn't Bart now is my other Flea with the Lane Poor pickup. I also have Barts in my Lakland 55-94 and MTD 535. I definitely prefer their pickups to EMG. But as each ear and taste is different, you do owe it to yourself to look for sound comparisons. Have you tried youtube at all? I've done a lot of researching on there when I can't find my info on here.

I have checked YouTube and there is nothing in regards to a direct comparison betwween EMGs and Barts which is strange considering the amount of discussion over the years. Regardless of pickup choice, we can eq our basses to sound how we want them to sound... It's the sound in our heads that we are trying to get out of our gear that counts. Every player has a different sound they are chasing. I have read great things about both EMGs and Barts, and have played both but in completely different basses. Both sounded great, but I'm just curious to hear a direct comparison.

So I found a 97 flea bass with the original Lane Poor, in as good a condition as you'll find a 15 year old bass for 1650. And the day after I got it, I crashed my bicycle riding home from work and fractured my elbow. Naturally. I'll let you know how I like it in 4-6 weeks.

Just in case anyone here is interested, I have my Metro MV5 up for trade. Looking for a Modulus Q5 Wide (19mm). Love my MV5 but, current tastes have me migrating toward a more modern sound and I absolutely loved the hifi sound my Q6 that I had before could produce. Link in my sig.
