Also, how about some pics of your TBX?

Each!

Didn't read that, yeah, doesn't make sense.

Makes sense if they can get the $$$. But it does seem ridiculous to me too...

A gold flake Flea 4 with a Lane Poor (that rhymes!) and an old pre-Quantum 4 on the 'bay (neither are mine). Cool to see what pops up every now and then...

Look whats coming back home. I traded my Q5 with some cash back for the Q6 I sold to DrZ many moons ago. Can't wait.

So question for you guys.... I've got Ken Smith Slickrounds on my Q5, and the G has a metallic "buzz"/"twang" when really getting at it. It's only when the string is open. The problem I'm having is figuring out which is the problem: the bridge or nut!

The bass is so resonant that it helps tremendously to put my finger on either the bridge or the nut. I'm pretty sure it's the bridge, though. Any tips to cure this? I'm about to restring it, also. it could very well be the individual winding of my individual G-string is sitting justtttt right in the bridge saddle. Thanks!

Had a similar issue with an A string on non-Modulus bass, turned out the slot for the A string on the nut was too wide so it would rattle when played open. I would check to see if the slot for the G is worn on the lateral edges or seems wider than the string. Aside from building up the edges with a mixture of cyanoacrylate and baking soda (if it's white plastic or bone - you can get black cyanoacrylate as well) and then reshaping the slot, you could try going up to a slightly thicker gauge string. A quick test would be to insert a thin piece of folded aluminum foil under the string in the slot, just enough to ensure that string sits snuggle in the slot. If it stops rattling as you describe, then that could be the culprit.

Another thing I do to avoid issues at the bridge is to press down on each string just after the saddle to create a crease in the string or witness point when putting a new set of strings on - also helps with intonation.

And, it could simply be that the G string is not high enough to allow for wider vibrations when you're digging in. Try raising the saddle slightly.

Hmmm. I have creased the strings as described, but even now I still think it's some metallic buzz in the bridge or saddle. I REALLY don't wanna get a new nut cut if I can help it. The thing looks really attached to the neck... so much finish wrapped around the edges it might give me a heart attack to do anything to it.

Also, I usually (98% of the time) play with a pick and let the amp do most of the work. I noticed it once and kept replicating it by really hitting the string to see where it was coming from. It's usually never a problem.

But hey, you maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist!

Can one of you guys enlighten me on the chemical experiment with the baking soda?

Check to make sure that the saddle is level. For instance, one screw not resting on the bridge plate could cause a vibration induced by the movement of the string.

Never tried this, but you could put something under the string in front of the saddle to isolate the string from the saddle a bit - kind of like a mute using some pickup foam or something of that nature. It may help determine if it is indeed the bridge and not the nut.

Baking soda is just used a solid filler with Krazy Glue (cyanoacrylate) to make it white and have a similar consistency as bone for shaping.

I had a similar buzz once....and I changed out the strings and the buzz was gone. Start simple before doing any surgery.

The strings that buzzed were brand new.....put on another new set and voila
I'm hoping this is the case. I've never heard it before this set, and it's definitely not a rattlesnake noise.

As soon as I get some strings on, I'll update what I find! Thanks for all the ideas, you dudes!
