^my latest baby. It's a 2002 VJ4 and it came to me preloaded with tons of sweet aftermarket goodies: It's got a satined neck, Babicz bridge, John East U-Retro preamp w/custom battery compartment, Nordstrand NJ4SV (neck) and NJ4SE (bridge) pickups, Hipshot detuner on E-string, rosewood thumb rest between pickups, and block inlay stickers (i think they look totally cool).
The green fretless Modulus sold on TB....right around or under $1,000....now it's $1400 with a BIN of $2100.
Waiting for the TLC show, Flipping Basses - although it would probably just feature guys weighting for the brown truck all day...

given that my tbx 5 is basically that ones twin (although my top seems to look a bit nicer) I certainly would love to see it fetch a high price

I just ordered a late 90's Q6 from Brian at Low end Bass shop. He mentioned that the neck is perfect but does not have the truss rod. How prone to movement are these necks? I baby my gear like crazy but stuff does happen, should I be concerned?

Mine is non-trussrod...1996 and it's awesome. I have had it for about 9 years and no issues.

I gigged a pair of 1995 Quantums for a couple of years. A Q4 and a Q5 Sweetspot. Neither had truss rods.
The Q5 was amazing. Super light, sounded incredible and the neck never budged once. I live in Canada and the temperature changes from under 0F to over 90F throughout the year. The humidity varies wildly as well. The Q5 is one of the only bases I have owned out of over 100 that I never had to adjust the neck (even saddles unless I changed string gauges). Rock solid.
The Q4 was a disaster. It played well to me with a shim but I sold it to another TBer whose tech noticed a very small forward bow in the neck. I didn't notice it, but I am not a douche, so I took the bass back. I sent it to Modulus and many months and over $500 later, it was fixed. Planed and refretted. Last item ever shipped out of the shop, so I am lucky I even got it back.
So IMO/IME, be careful when you buy a 15-20 year old Modulus or any bass without a TR. Low End definitely know their stuff, so if they vouch for the neck being straight and perfect, I would absolutely go for it. If it isn't screwed up after this many years, it is very unlikely that it will wrap or twist in the foreseeable future.
Amazing basses, I just personally can't do 35" anymore.

I've heard that the 5 and 6 string Quantums without truss rods fare much better than
the four bangers, something about the increased mass of the neck make them more stable
than the fours. If Modulus were still in business, that might mitigate this problem somewhat,
but it's a crap shoot whether you get a stable bass or have to spend lots of money

Best bass I ever had was a 91 Q5 ... Until the forward bow set in. Even a jerry dorsch refret couldnt save it.
I had that issues with my neck thru Bassstar. My local guy (Tim Connaly of Hofner) was able to straighten out the neck with his luthier magic and it plays extremely well without a truss rod.
Actually both my Q5 and Bassstar do not have truss' in them and Tim was able to get them to perfection (for me). My action is super low because I have a very light touch and in the 9 years I have been playing my Bassstar, it has never needed any tweaking at all. Rock solid and wonderful.

So I entered an extra number and now I own my 6th Modulus.. A 6 String. I am sitting here thinking what in the world am I going to do with a 6'er... It is a 1993 Modulus Quantum 6 Sweet Spot with the Bartolini pickup and I believe the NTSB 2 band EQ system in it. Beautiful tobacco burst and a gig bag(which I hate).. Never played a 6'er Modulus before. I know I didn't like my Q5 SS. Could not get used to the location of the pickup. Had to use a pick, which I do not like.. Anyway, more to follow. Maybe a keeper, maybe a Mod 6'er up for sale... Not sure yet.

Oh, I am pulling it onstage this Saturday and going to give it a 4 hour workout.. This will be played and gone through. I am super excited...
Nice work! That was a pretty low price for a decent looking bass, took all my will power to not place a bid on that one! (saving up for a nice Flea, whenever the next one comes along)
