Modulus Mob

So I traded my Fretless Q4 for a fretted Flea with Barts. I am much more happy with the sound out of the Flea. Heres some pics:

Anyone know if you can buy a pearl white pick guard for one of these?

Thanks!

To you guys with Quantums w/chechen boards:

I know the chechen is supposed to sound warmer than the phenolic board, but other than that is there really much difference in terms of how they sound?

Is it a really big difference?

Are they still easily identiable as Quantums? In other words, do they retain that signature Quantum tone?

Also, what is Chechen like? I'm guessing by pics that it's smooth, very hard, and very dense. Can anyone compare it to other, more well-known, fingerboard woods?

It seems as though Q's with chechen boards go for more $$. What's your estimate of the average price for a Q5 w/chechen board (used)?

Thanks!

To be honest, and I'm on my second one now, live you're not going to tell a huge difference.
For me, I play 99% of the time with an IEM setup, and that's where you can hear the difference. It's definitely smoother across the board, and you can play with more attack and it's not as harsh. It still responds very similar to the phenolic board, but it is noticeable, if you're enough of a player to distinguish between tonewoods, pickups, etc.. which I know you are!
I've yet to play a Modulus that is "sterile", or whatever you wanna call it, but this definitely takes some of the "edge" off, and warms it up noticeably.

My favorite Q5 was one that recently just switched hands on here again, and had a chechen/alder body, and then a chechen fretboard. Very punchy and warm. Especially with some DR Hi-Beams on it, which I've now put on my custom Q5 and I'm much happier with those than the DR Lo Rider Nickels that came stock with it.

So, yeah it's definitely having one, or worth giving it a try. I'd really like to get that bass back someday, whoever bought it! :p
