That mineral stain 5 was at NAMM- who knows who touched it?
I'm interested in the all Aguilar electronics though. Glad to see they are trying new stuff.
So the q5 got here super quick!
And as you can see she's in pretty good shape for being 16 years old. Feels like she's been played a lot in good health but the fret wear is minimal and the action is smoooooth and low (shown in pic). I also honestly don't mind the bartolini system in it, surprisingly. I haven't owned or really played a 5er since my first bass when I was 14 so I was nervous about the neck being comfortable enough to play my normal lines on. Well, other than getting used to the string spacing, I have had no problem adjusting to the feel. Very easy to play. Still deciding if a 5er is for me though. Shouldn't have trouble selling it if I end up not really falling in love.
The only thing I have yet seen that makes me wonder if I should worry is the clear coat appears to have gone "foggy". It looks almost as if the polyurethane is separated from the neck slightly.
Anyone else have this on any of their moddys? I know I've seen some that have this appearance but I just want to make sure it's not something to worry about. Thus far it doesn't seem to cause any issues with the instrument itself other than aesthetically.

I've seen that on other basses too- I was looking into a used Roscoe that had that on the body, and when I contacted Roscoe, the responded that it was "moisture under the finish", if I remember correctly. They also said it wasn't a big deal, and if it really bothered me, I could get it refinished. So I wouldn't be concerned.
This might be an apples versus oranges comparison - I'm not sure what kind of finish, if any, is on the neck of a Modulus, so it may not be exactly the same cause for what you see there. It definitely appears, however, to be some kind of moisture-related issue, and is likely not a major structural issue, just a cosmetic one.
One of my VJ necks has clouding/hazing that coincides with the fretboard in a couple of spots. It's been that way for years.
There is indeed a finish on modulus necks. hard polyurethane coat. thats what you see flaking off the necks of older moddys.

Then there we go: finish cracked or delaminated, moisture got under, haze happens. Same as the situationFred312b described.
i think that cracking along the fretboard that happened to a lot of the glossy modulus basses is why they have moved to use satin finishes lately. thats my theory based on nothing at all
Well to change the subject, the Music Zoo just put 4 Modulus basses up on the 'bay. Very nice, but kind of odd- 2 Q6's and 2 VJ's, a fretted and a fretless of each. Like someone sold off their collection or something... @ialma they have a black transparent fretted Q6- don't know if you can do a 6, but I know that's the color you were looking for in a 5er.
For the record, I think the Q6 is a pretty easy 6 to play.

so im deciding i don't really dig the whole 5 string thing. i'm thinking of selling the q5 i just acquired or just returning it. probably to purchase a different bass. anyone interested let me know. i'll do a good deal for ya. I have one week before i have to return it, so lemme know.
