Not familiar with the s3000 honestly. I love my Moddy and I lust for a Status. Never owned a Status, but played a couple S2's that were just wonderful. I hope to own one at some point. After I save for a G. Gould. So I have a 5 year plan lol.

Hmm. I vaguely recall you elaborating on that earlier in this thread (or perhaps over in the G.Gould thread). I'm currently undergoing a bout of indecision paralysis that I have no good reason for being subject to, and perhaps your statement resonates with this situation:

In shopping around for a "backup" to my 1988 Modulus 6-string, I have recently come across two possible contenders:
- a 2002 Modulus Quantum Q6 (in decent condition)
- a brand-spanking new G.Gould GGi6

...for the exact same price.

Now, rational prudent me thinks this oughtta be a no-brainer: The Modulus is overpriced, plus it's not in excellent condition, plus it's arguably made by a company that doesn't exactly exist anymore, & even if they did as 2nd owner I wouldn't have any warranty rights. The GG is new, comes with a warranty, should be an easy decision, right?

So why isn't it?

If the Status is a bass you think you'd be happy with, I'd say go for it. It's a lot of bass for the money. I paid $1200 for my Q4, and that's about as low as they go for.

If you really want a Modulus in particular though, I would browse browse this [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], and keep looking on a regular basis until you find one reasonable close to you. I was able find one that was around 2.5 hours away after a couple months of looking.

hehe... just bass the decision on the scenario posed to me when some see my 'stable'.

"if trapped in a burning building about to fall and you can save only one bass, which one do you pick?"

(my friends suck btw... :spit: :wacky:)

the modulus or the gould? who lives another day and who ends up a duraflame log? :p

More of a feel thing actually. I have been playing them now for 20 years. They just have become part of me. Just like any other bass. I wouldn't talk anyone out of getting a Gould. Just my opinion, you know. I certainly don't want to offend anyone with my view. I love my Hondo Longhorn and would hate it if people talked crap about it, but to each their own. However, since this is a Modulus forum, they are my favorite basses. I cannot make that claim in any other forum

imo, the gould's are more an 'evolution' of moduli from the 90's (slightly wider neck, more of a 'jazz' body, etc.).

it's apples and oranges (whatever you're hungry for that particular day).

neither are 'better' than the other. for me, it's whatever i'm in the mood for. but 'feel' and 'familiarity' can color decision in the end.

playing my satin-finished, maple-neck'd gould's is nirvana. but, if my car was on fire and my favorite gould and my modulus tbx was in the back seat and i could only save one before the car explodes... i'm saving my modulus.

Yeah, I've been patrolling Craigslist for a while. The only ones that I've seen are in Canada, and are both $2,500 and $2,600. There's a fretless six-string with enharmonic fret markings, but that's not exactly my style.
