The GG is new, comes with a warranty, should be an easy decision, right?

So why isn't it?

I'd go with the moddy. It's going to be close to what you're already playing. I have a '97 Q4 and a 2006 Q4. The necks are similar enough so that if the action is set the same on both of them, I can switch between them with next to no playing adjustment. I don't think you'd get the same interchangeablility with a G Gould.

A back up should be as close to the main bass as possible. In feel and sound.

when i contacted them, they mentioned that they weren't too keen on shipping.

darn shame. just need to put them in a small usps flat-rate priority box and you're golden.

speaking of moduli-related items in the bay area, anyone check out the ggs fiver that's floated on the interwebs? it's at a store in san rafael i used to frequent many moons ago (nice place).

kinda reminded me of a status (body-wise). never heard a bass with kent armstrong p/u's or a john east preamp. being a set-neck, probably the closest one can get to a tbx without the bigger price tag. interesting choice at 34" scale also. jerry definitely does nice work!

I just grabbed a Q5 not long ago, going to gave to chill on that idea haha. Beautiful bass though.

I'm going to have to set aside some time to set my Q5 up. Plays hella fast and the action is stupid low, my right hand is just a touch to heavy so I will have to bring the action up.

Started to do everything when I changed strings the other day (won a pack of SIT beta testers on FB along with 9 other people for my idea on what to name them, one of us will be choses for free strings for a year). I only had time to set intonation, didn't have time for a full set up.

I have plans on playing with the pickup and preamp (will keep the original emg and 3 band w/ mid sweep).

The B string saddle is adjusted all the way to the outside though and the roller is stuck. Anyone know shere I can pick up just a saddle?

Damn it! Now I have to save for a Status, a Gould and now a GGS.... 1st world problems...

is it a schaller bridge?

schaller hails from germany. don't know if they have a web presence. quick check of the allparts site didn't show any saddles being sold separately.

is it chrome, gold, or black?

Chrome Schaller.

To be honest, I haven't looked for a saddle yet, Carvin seems to have the Schaller in Chrome for $75

Any difference between Carvins and other suppliers?

Yeah that GGS is kinda cool except for the blatant status body copy and it's red my least favorite color for a bass. Also not fan of the headstock shape. It's really too bad Jerry doesn't have a website with a gallery of build options, I've seen pics of a few different basses and a guitar he's built but I'm too keen on the headstock or body shapes. I'm sure he could build just about anything if asked. Just wish there was an easier way to contact him via the web.

I have John East u-retro deluxe preamps in both my moddys. They are the best there is, hands down. SICK sound.
I also have Kent Armstrong Claymores in my Carl Thompson, and they sound excellent. Really great sound, clear reproduction.

I bet that bass sounds like a beast.

It took me quite a while to set up my moddys perfectly. My jazz bass took the longest, but I only just recently finished the fine tuning of my Quantum 4 setup, since I had to adjust it to account for the extra magnetic pull from installing the LP pups. The relief adjustment bar can be a bit finicky to work with but once you get it just right, BAM! Never have to touch it again.
