Modulus Mob

Well I will say that I prefer having the truss rod (or “relief adjustment system”). While not a Modulus, when I got my Status, it had pretty light strings on it, and when I put on my normal size (DR’s .45-.125), the action was a BIT high. There’s only so much you can do with the bridge, but with several turns of the wrench over a couple of days (and some patience), I got it where I like it. I may never need it again, but it’s nice to know it’s there.

That being said, it’s NOT like a truss rod in a wooden neck. There’s definitely a big “dead spot” where it doesn’t do anything, and I was a bit nervous, but talking with TBers in the Status Register thread (I know, blapshemy!), I got it where I wanted. Compared with my Laklands, where I’m usually good after a 1/4 turn or two... All IMHO, of course...

I remember a Phish show a couple or three years ago where Mike played a bolt on and his TBX, and I couldn't hear a lick of difference in the mix. Even relistening!

I have a pair of Quantum 6-string basses (pictured a few pages back), one a bolt-on SPX and the other a neck-thru TBX, and, while there are enough other things different about them to make this a wholly unfair comparison, fwiw they sound NOTHING alike. Like, drastically different.

That's so cool! I just can't wait to get my hands one one eventually. My 34" is pretty darn incredible. Like, I can't really imagine it sounding much better. I've read about the sustain and definition, but what about your two sets them apart?

I owned that tbx 2 owners ago and I agree- my q5 is similar enough (phenolic ‘board, emg dc and 2 band eq, all my basses have DR strings) to compare, and there is a BIG difference. The tbx had more sparkle and clarity to the notes, they seemed to ring longer and the bass seemed more touch sensitive. Not saying one is better, but they’re not the same.

saw this pic from namm. very nice. looks like lane poor is finally getting around to making m4-sized pickups instead of only putting out the mm's. any 'mobsters' in anaheim? feel free to post more modulus pron! :D

I literally live down the street but getting a pass is always a hustle and I didn't bother this year. I went last year but I don't believe Modulus did.

heheh, don't some attendees 'pay it forward' anymore? when i used to go in the 90's/early 00's, some would leave their badges taped to a lamp post or phone pole near the venue so others can 'visit'. pretty sure that was a no-no but was a kind gesture nonetheless! :D
