Modulus Mob

It's a bit of a drive for you, but NJ Guitar and Bass Center looks like they have a couple of Q5s, including a newer 19mm (or maybe the really wide 22.5mm) model: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Yes they have had those Q5's for about 5 years now. All the basses in that store are very old. He has or had a Pedulla that was still being called new that was from 1993

Hey Mob,

Looking to change up my strings. Been using DR steels (either hi beams, lo riders or fat beams) for awhile now, but looking for something new on a Q5.

Anyways, I’m looking at D’addario nickels (both xl’s and nyxl’s) and wondering from you cats that use them- do i need the extra long scale, or do the regular long scales work all right?

I use NYXL on my Q5, I also used DR in the past, I'm happy with the sound and duration of the NYXL. I use regular, not extra long scale and has been working fine.

I often look at the Modulus classifieds on places like Reverb. I note the TBX is an early 90's model, often with a gold monorail bridge and a through neck. The usually command a decent price too.

Are there any other differences between the Quantum and the TBX? I assume the Quantum superceded the TBX?

Both are still in production, Quantum is a bolt-on and TBX is a neck-thru.

Here: Quantum TBX Home

I started my own thread on this, but I thought this might be the better place to ask. Any help is appreciated.

I am looking to try out a Modulus Quantum 5. Is anyone located near Chicago and willing to meet so I can play it for an hour? I can pitch in gas money and/or meet halfway. It's quite difficult to find a Quantum 5 to try locally without buying one first. Unless I missed something, please let me know.

If this is the wrong forum, I apologise. The GTG forum did not make sense since I was the only one looking to meet fellow bass players one on one. Not quite a multi-person GTG!

Hey man, i’ve got one (although it is a 19mm spacing one, not the standard 17mm), but it’s in pieces at the moment (replacing electronics and hardware), but once it’s all back together again, you’re more than welcome to check it out.

I had a 17mm one at the time of the gtg, didn’t bring it because I thought it was too “mainstream” :D

Captain Pedantic says: They're both "Quantums" it's just that the neck-thru model is the "Quantum TBX".

Pretty sure "Quantum" originally referred to the body shape/style with that gracefully elongated upper horn. Lord knows there have been close to a dozen Quantum variants over the years, some neck-thru, most bolt-on (and some bolt-ons with the Integrated Neck Joint, others with a traditional Fender-style heel & neck plate). But all Quantums.

Wouldn't Captain Pedantic say, "They're both Quanta"
