Custom cut real carbon fiber guard and rear cover. I've literally replaced everything on this but the body, neck and finish. Contemplating sending it to Marty Bell for a silver sparkle treatment which I think would look killer with the blacked out parts

Had it custom cnc cut. Niko carbonworks did it and did a great job! He doesn't bevel edges or countersink screws though. I just had him leave the front guard without mounting holes and called planet bass to ask what they use to affix the current removable guards - 3m picture hanging double side tape found most anywhere. Super happy how it came out. Price was more than fair too.

The guy I traded my TBX 6 to had Joe Perriman make a KLD back plate (during the Modulus hiatus). Maybe we should suggest that to Tony at Planet Bass as an accessory to sell (although they’d probably charge $500 ;) )

He has some things with KLD in the works that I saw from when I last visited the shop. Respectfully, I'm not going to say exactly what since they hadn't been formally announced, but a back plate is definitely not out of the question.

Edit - And Joe is still making their basses.

So is the control cover just covered in a carbon fiber sheet or is the control cover one big piece of carbon fiber?

i picked this sheet roll off of fleabay a long time ago in hopes of covering things like the control plate or battery covers.

after seeing how your bass turned out, will play around with this roll on my next vacation to see if i can get close to the look of your cover/guard.

Is that raw carbon fiber fabric? If so, I wouldn't recommend trying to use it as-is; it really needs to be completely encased in polyester or epoxy resin. CF, by itself, is not very durable in real world use. It'll shred if it gets scuffed, knocked around, etc. and it makes really nasty little splinters that you do not want to deal with.

This is an entirely new cover made from a solid piece of carbon fiber. No overlays, etc. I believe it is 2 - 2.5 mm thick. I too wanted a KLD pickguard and cover and was scared of the prices I was quoted.

not sure if it's 'raw'. feels like when you drag your fingers over an umbrella. i got this off of a seller who uses this to cover their car parts (hoods and such) so it looks like the entire piece was made of carbon fiber.

i'm assume that it should be able to take a beating since it was made to withstand the elements. but definitely wouldn't want to have this cut me up either...

If it's a sheet of fabric, then it's "raw". To use it--for car parts or bass parts--it needs to be saturated/encased in poly or epoxy resin so that it's solid.

ah, thanks very much. will abandon said endeavors.

are pieces of carbon fiber available on the open market? paying $300 for an authentic modulus control cavity is a bit out of the price range.
