Modulus Mob

I am guessing M4 by the numbers on the back of them.
yeah, those look to be the emg40-shaped pickups (4" x 1.5").

heh, i'm in the opposite boat where i prefer the sound of barts over emg's.

but lately have had the itch to try other manufacturer's pickups to see if something else strikes me sonicly.

have tried nordy splits and delano's and they kinda sound the same (to my ears at least).

waiting on a build that has lane poor's so can't wait to see how they sound.

interested also if anyone has tried duncan dual coils in their moduli. i thought i read somewhere that those are the ones that fodera uses in their basses. i could be horribly wrong tho.

If you are referring to the Duncan NYC pickups, then yes, I think they are the Fodera ones- “We originally designed these pickups for one of the world’s finest handcrafted basses.”

I think they’re only available in 19mm spacing though, so that complicates things, at least for my OCD :D (pic is from an old BP review, I have no experience with them).

yeah, if they're only offered in 19mm, that's a non-starter. i need 17.5mm.

i special-ordered nordy bigrigs at 17.5mm. took almost 3 months to get them. hopefully they're the bees knees.

I would be grateful if you guys can keep us educated on the pickups that accommodate 17.5mm spacing, since that's what my 5 and 6 are nominally designed for.
as far as nordstrand, a lot of their emg40-shaped soapbars (big singles, big splits, fat stacks, dual coils, and bigrigs) can be custom ordered for 17.5mm.

will chime in if i run into other manufacturers that offer 17.5mm.

Please make sure to post a review of what you think after you install them - I'm always looking for ways to enhance or fine tune my tone. Curious to know how the big rigs respond to your bass.

Why 17.5?
because that's my preferred spacing at the bridge. not too wide and not too tight.

if one chooses to use pickups with exposed poles (non-blades), you'd need to make sure the strings fly almost exactly over the magnets for optimum effect.

geoff also mentions above that his fivers are set up at 17.5mm. since he uses fully adjustable bridges, any user can fudge the bridge spacing inwards or outwards but 17.5mm is the sweet spot (one of the main reason i've been a g. gould owner for about 20 years).

Ah, you're adjusting the spacing out. Just asking because the standard spacing was 17mm.
"spacing out"... technically, no.

yes, quantum (q5's) are 17mm at the bridge.

the only non-modded modulus i own is a tbx-5 (17.5mm spacing at the bridge).

i have four hybrids (quantum bodies with maple gould necks) that are also set at 17.5mm.

hence, my preference to pickups with 17.5mm spacing at the bridge so as to avoid the setup like in these pics:

bad align.jpeg 11.jpg

looks like they put exposed-pole pickups (probably 19mm) on basses that have a bridge spacing of 17-17.5mm.

no bueno.

Any body 'recently' tried the new Q-Tuner Q2.0 versions without the adjustable poles? They seem to fit the Quantum pickup cavity with a mil or two on either side 100x37 mm (new dimensions according to email conversation with Erno at Q-Tuner). Curious if they grab a low B too much...or evenly. Just checking them out. They 'look' awesome though. I know there are older threads, but wanted to see if any of you all have had experience with them recently.

No, but I've wanted to try them in a Modulus forever

I think those Q-tuner pickups (the clear red ones) look cool as hell. One thing that concerns me is their use of neodymium. When a pickup has too strong a magnet, it can reduce sustain and throw off intonation. But, I never see magnetic field strengths listed on pickups. Does anyone know of a brand that does? It may just be something the public is not ready to wrap its head around yet. And I don't mean to throw shade on the Q pickups either. I imagine you could perhaps safely use neodymium responsibly. I'm just curious.
