Modulus Mob

Really? I've used Nickel Lo-Riders for over a decade on my relief-adjustment less SST with no issues. What happened with yours?

I didn't notice any other issues except that when using the Lo-Riders there was too much relief. I've used them exclusively for years and I really like them.

I'm glad to know this doesn't happen with every non-truss Modulus, but it's too expensive a purchase for me to risk it happening again, so I avoid them.

Here's an old post about DR strings and Modulus necks - Modulus; nice...but you are getting jacked....hard
Aside from the fact it mentions Hi Beams specifically I only see one post from one user and nothing to reference other than hearsay. My SST has been using Lo Riders for about 16 years and hasn't had an issue. Fluke, maybe? Anyway I'm interested in this idea of certain strings messing with Mod necks if someone has more information.

Yeah, that's wild. I'm tempted to swap out my strings and see if I notice any difference in the next couple weeks. I did instantly throw Lo Riders on it when I got mine so maybe I didn't notice since it's 'always' been that way?

Curious if @GeoffGould has heard of this before with either Mods or GGs.

I just saw that there was this modulus group. (I just joined TalkBass). Anyway, I posted the item below to the main basses section, but here actually looks like a better location.

So my main bass is a Modulus Genesis 5. I've been playing it for over 20 years, and I love it. I bought it, thinking, "if this is the only bass I ever own, that will be fine." I've played a pretty wide variety of styles on it, and have always been happy. I once even ended up as the only white guy in some sort of gangster rap jam session at a coffee house.

Ok preliminaries aside, I've been toying around with getting a second bass. Those of you who are familiar with the Genesis basses what sort of bass do you think would provide a useful complement to mine? Are you happy slapping/tapping on a Genesis, and you'd have a second bass set with higher action. If so, tone-wise, what would you suggest. On the other hand, if you had a Genesis set up with heavier strings and higher action, what bass would be a good complement for that rig? I'm think of this as a Venn Diagram, where I have as little overlap as possible.

Was looking into the Music Man basses, but I'm all ears for suggestions. I think my top end is going to be about $4000, so I can go pretty high end, but not into the Fodera/Alembic stratosphere or anything, and I definitely want to stick with 5-strings.

Thoughts?

Aaron

I'm not a finish expert; it's just the chemistry teacher in me thinking it looks like some high energy photons started cross-linking in the finish. Is it supposed to be water damaged?
the "clouding" i've seen before from players who perspire a bit. the finish on the kld necks tended to 'cloud' up in certain areas like between frets 1-5. but this neck is all clouded-up with 'freckles'.

iirc, the mike gordon tbx5 that was for sale a few years back had a neck that was also all clouded up from the headstock to the strap button. i believe it was mentioned that the bass was located in central america which could mean a lot of exposure to the sun and humidity. no bueno.

I’m not either, but I’ve seen it on other instruments, specifically on on the body, where the finish gets that cloudiness and it was explained as being moisture that was trapped. I’d be more worried about it on a wooden body/neck than on a carbon fiber one, but still, I don’t think it’s good any way. YMMV.
