I was thinking the same thing & that is unacceptable to me considering the high cost. If all that work needed to be done & it was a $275 instrument, I get it but not for a $6000-$7000 bass - or for a $1500 for that matter. It's like buying a brand new Audi and then saying "It's awesome but I had to adjust the brake pads, give it a tune up & swap out the GPS (and not by choice).Damn, that is one sexy bass. I love everything about it.
Sounds like a surprising amount of work to put into a new instrument though, at that price point.
Photos?I’ve got a - what I THINK to be a ‘92 SPi four string with EMG pups, looks to be a dark green tiger maple. The serial number is- 980589. Can anyone help me identify this bass? I bought in in January of 1995- the item number is-40MG2989. I’m considering moving it. I don’t know what it is worth. TIA-
Not astute enough as yet. It’s not mint- has some scratch wear- normal. Ok- ima try to do the photo thing- gotta pry my wife from her kindle. I can’t even. Thanks for your interest!Photos?

If the SN starts w 98 I believe that would mean that axe was built in 1998. If you bought it in ‘95 you probably traveled into the future…I’ve got a - what I THINK to be a ‘92 SPi four string with EMG pups, looks to be a dark green tiger maple. The serial number is- 980589. I’ve been accused of many things, but never being ahead of my time. You are correct- I’ve got cataracts. The second digit is double struck- my wife took a photo of it, and we have since concluded it to be a “2”. The amended serial number is- 920589. I’m set to visit an eye surgeon next week. Thank you!If the SN starts w 98 I believe that would mean that axe was built in 1998. If you bought it in ‘95 you probably traveled into the future…
Still can’t find my car…now everything makes more sense, and the timeline has not been corrupted!
Maybe you turned it into a drivewayStill can’t find my car…
that there is my 1994 Quantum Turbo with a third pickup in the front position.. And she is Silverburst..The black 5-string in front of the Genesis basses...is that a ramp, or a third pickup?
Anyone have suggestions on new pickups and pre for an MM+J funk unlimited? Currently has Bartolini pickups and an obp3. I'm not fond of the pre. Have never really like bartolini pickups in general. I can dial a sound that is acceptable but it's not really grabbing me, eventually I stop and say to myself "this is how it's voiced". It's ok, but I think the pre at least should go. The mid selector (push/pull) and pot adjustment barely make any changes. Like barely. The signal seems low but if I crank the bass it gets a lot hotter. Bass at the center detent seems a bit weak, turning up increased output...
I've been thinking of a complete emg setup.
Looking for suggestions, thanks!
My strap button on my VJ bass got stripped somehow. I noticed it was loose and without having to use a screwdriver the screw & button just pull out. Is the solution to simply get a larger diameter screw? I don't want to make the hole bigger only to end up with the same problem. Any suggestions as to how to replace/remedy the issue? Thanks.
That does sound odd- my experience with Aguilar pre’s is a little goes a LONG way… is it stock? Are you the original owner?
