Thanks for the kind words. She plays and sounds as good as she looks too. :D The Roland tracks well on the Mod, but I currently have in installed on my Stambaugh 6 fretless. It seems to track a bit better on the Stammi, not sure if its because of the shorter scale, but the tougher tones, piano, etc, definitely have less lag time with the Stammi.

Before I installed new strings on my new Q5, the bass was still very much a Q5 but had a bit of a "dampened" nature to the tone. That is less top-end sparkle and a bit "thicker" low mid. I attributed this at first to the nickel strings it was wearing and not knowing how old they were.

Last night, I installed a fresh set of SR2000s, a SS string that I am VERY familiar with, and there is still a sense of that. To a lesser degree of course, but the tone is not as open and sparkling as I expected it to be.

This bass is a bit heavier that the other Q5 I had, but other than that, they only other variance is the Aguilar preamp. My other one had a Bartolini NTBT 2-band.

Is the Aggie known to be darker? If so, I am thinking a swap to a Bart NTMB may be in order!

Hey guys, I'm breaking the code of silence to rejoin the mob after a few years in witness protection.:ninja:
I picked up this Q5 from a fellow TBer. I've owned Modulus basses off and on for years, and I'm pretty sure I've been a member of the Modulus Mob before. Anyway, thanks to this Q5 I'm back in black.

Anybody else using their Modulus on a country gig?

Did anyone else see this beauty on eBay? Maybe one of you snagged it (and want to sell it to me ;))? I was the high bidder by a good margin with 3 minutes to go, but ended up losing it in the last few seconds! Ahhhh, so close. For years I've been looking for a Q5 with LP's. I've had 2 Q6's with them but I could never get used to the 6 string neck width. Oh well, the search continues for now, so I suppose I'll just have to settle for my crappy old Q5 with Bartolinis :scowl:;)

Welcome back member #27 Akito! Sweet looking bass! What pickup/pre combo is on your Q5? I have no experience playing county, myself, but others may have.

27! Cool and thanks! My bass is chock full of EMG electronics. I've owned Q5s with both Barts and EMGs, and I go against convention and actually prefer the EMGs. Way back in the day when I was deciding on my first Modulus, I had a choice between several instruments equipped with barts and emgs, and I decided on a Q5 with barts. It was my first 5 string bass too. I had a chance back then to buy a couple of neck-through Quantums straight from Modulus, and I passed. Still crying about that today!
