Thanks. It's been so many years that he couldn't remember many details. It was luck that a picture showed up (with a link to this thread) of the bass under construction.

Yes sir.
And yes, the design was based off of his Irwin bass. This is one of his first Modulus basses. Believed to be used around '85. I am super interested in the original poster's response of what year this was made/if he knew wether it was the first PL Mod or whatever other info.

Since no one has yet responded I can help with your first question. Simple answer: No. Pickups and electronics should definitely not be a deal breaker. I have owned 3 Mods to date, 2 Q5's and a VJ and swapped PU's and Pre's in everyone of them. (all from Barts to EMG interestingly enough) so, if you like the bass and it plays to what you prefer then the electronics are like strings to me. An easy personal preference change out, just a little more expensive. Factor that cost into the deal though. The parts in there will have some resale value as well so I wouldn't be afraid at all as long as you get a deal you're happy with up front.Hi! I'm new here and have a couple questions:
1. I'm about to become the owner of a '99 Q5. It has bart pup's, but only a 2 band EQ. Can anyone comment about that? Should it be a deal breaker? Can I just upgrade the pre-amp later down the road? Does anyone have experience with a modulus like this? I hope it still sounds as incredible as most other modulus basses.
2. Once I actually own this bass, where do I get one of those Modulus Mob stickers?
I'm giving up my number, sold my Q5! Just wasn't the sound I'm looking for any more and figured someone else could give it more love.
Modulus Mob #12 is open!
5sg.

Anyone here having a noise issue with an Aguilar OPB-3 pre? I can't turn the treble pot on my 2010 FU4 with the SD pickup anywhere near flat (center detent) without getting high pitch noise, around 12K which gets louder the higher I adjust the treble. Not trying to blow out the highs, but would be nice to set the bass flat. It's bugging the squirrel giblets out of me and am about to toss the whole pre and go with a different pup/pre combo. Just wondering if this is common or if it might be a tech issue.
String spacing looks tight.
I've got a 2007 Flea 5 with the OBP-3 pre and Bartolini MM pickup. No issues with noise whatsoever, no matter what the settings on any of the controls. Not sure what the issue could be.
