Info seems sparse on this model. A Google search yielded this bit of info:

"It's most often described as somewhere between the Modulus Q “Sweetspot Bass (due to the size and placement of the single, massive, 18 volt preamp, active EMG pickup) and the Modulus Flea Bass, and is referred to the Flea fore-runner."

Perhaps you could search the TB site, find some old discussions on this model and perhaps send of a friendly PM or two those that have owned them for their opinions. As far as value goes these basses really don't go 'bad'. Just check the usual stuff. Does it have a truss rod or not, fret wear, general condition. After that does it play well (or to your liking)? Compare that to what newer Sweetspots and Fleas are selling for and back it up from there.

Just wanted to put the word out to the Modulus guys on here that My early thin neck Modulus quantum 5 fretless TBX extremely rare bass will be hitting the market on Talkbass soon. It has a few dings and some buckle rash but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I bought it with the intention of restoring and have not gotten around to it. Mind you its not in bad shape but to be mint it needs some minor refinishing. As far as a good player its great!!!! Amazing fretless tone like you would not believe with active EMG single coils. I have yet to set a price but if you are a TBX collector like me its a must have. The only reason I am passing it on is because its not getting the love it deserves and I have not gigged it in over a year. Hit me up if you have any questions. This is my attempt to get the word out to you mod guys before it goes open market

Hey Nervous, where did you find those 350 Res-o-Lites? What about the knobs? How much weight do you think that took off of your bass?
The tuners are a bit tricky to find, as I am sure you know. All-Parts has them but they are expensive there:

I found them here, along with all the other necessary hardware to complete the conversion:

They are calling them GB-7 Lightweight Tuners (which is all part of the confusion.). The Mod uses a GB7 tuner as stock but with a different key style. The GB350 tuners have that style key and are a touch lighter.

The exact weight differences are as follows:

Gold Keys (stock, unknown Gotoh model) are 2.3 oz ea or 11.4 oz/set of five
Black Res-O-Lites are 1.4 oz ea or 7.0 oz per set of five. That's a 4.4 oz loss. It isn't much, I know but a full 1/4 pound.

I also installed an aluminum Hipshot type A .669 bridge which replaced the gold (and I believe aluminum bridge). The stock gold weighed 5.3 oz and the new black at 5.1 oz. Not enough there to matter but I would imagine it would have been significant if the gold had been a brass bridge.

This bass was quite light to start though, around 9# as best as the digital bathroom scale can measure it. A full 2# less than mt Spector Euro5 and if I could get a more accurate measurement I'd bet it's actually more than that. The difference between them is striking and every time I pick this Q5 up I am stunned by it's lightness compared to what I am used to. This bass has really bee impressing me on a lot of levels. The action and playability are about the best I have ever owned, condition is great, frets show little use. With the EMG 40DC's and the EMG BTS System installed I look forward to seeing what it can do.

The bridge (Hipshot 5A500AB/669 17mm) and knobs were purchased from an eBay seller Pitch Perfect Music, that is actually Arkansas Musicworks. They offered decent/competitive pricing, free shipping and no tax:

They are available from Buzzard Bass as well and are an All-Parts item, # MK-3330-003. The matching concentric knob set is # MK-3320-003. I think these are also Gotoh items. They are certainly high quality.

Hope this helps.

Well, after fussing with an EMG BTS Installation my Q5 is all dressed up and ready to go.

From some beat up gold and Barts:

To beautiful black and EMG's:

And some nifty lightweight (at just 1.4 oz per tuner) Gotoh GB350 Res-O-Lite tuners:

Kudos man. I (personally) like the black hardware on most basses, especially the Q5's, just personal preference. See my Sienna Quantum! Not sure what mine weighs, but it is a bit heavier than my Roscoe's, not that I am complaining.

Thanks for sharing!

If I remember correctly, the M-92 was released in...you guessed it, 1992. It was essentially a single pickup Quantum and was the precursor to the Sweet Spot. The price at the time was great but I was always turned off by the pickguard.

£850 sterling seems to be about what used Quantums go for on this side of the pond.

My pleasure. That's why I am here. Man, that Q5 looks awfully familiar. It's not my old one but looks a lot like it:

Mine was a Q5 Wide (19mm) which is why I eventually sold it. My current is a regular spaced (17mm) which I personally like so much better. Plays effortlessly for me.

I am not sure which color I prefer just yet. And, one side note. I read a lot about how good a lot of mfgs do quilt (and some certainly do and some not so much) but I have yet to see a Modulus that didn't have absolutely kick ass quilt. They know their business.

Just picked up this beauty from fellow TB'er fivestringgecko. He's going to miss it because this bass just plays, looks and sounds fantastic. Easily the most comfortable 35" scale bass I've played to date when compared to the Spector Euros and Lakland 55-64 I have. Gotta take some more shots when time permits.

Hey all! Been hanging around for a while but have never posted before. These are my two main basses - 1994 Q6 and a 2000 GVJ4 Fretless.

I am the third owner of the Quantum and bought it from a friend about 8 years ago. It's the only one I've ever seen with a 5 piece body. I understand that was a pretty expensive upgrade that they tried for a few years and stopped in the mid 90's. I'd be curious if any of you have more information about that.

The fretless was an ebay purchase in 2007. It's an ash body with maple/carbon/granadillo neck. I should really play it more than I do.
