Modulus Mob

Really, the harmonics came out more. Hmm... that might be worth it for me alone.

Just got done playing for a bit and yes they really do come out. And I saw that GC and MF are having a sale them until tonight for around $67-69.00.

Anyone have any experience or opinion on:

Hipshot A bridge in aluminum vs. brass on a Q5?

Hipshot UL tuners on a Q5?

I have the brass on a Fender P-bass and the aluminum on a Jazz and I don't notice any difference in performance or weight really. I like the Hipshot A bridges, but have found, at least on my P, that the intonation screw for the E was too long so I had to cut and file it down.

Unfortuantely, the bass I have with Hipshot A was installed by previous owner very poorly on an ESP but it seems like a good bridge, I just never took the time to correct it but was easy to adjust IMO. I don't think you'll have any issues with it but not sure if it's really any better then stock aside from the adjustments.

The stock Mod Q5 bridge is a Hipshot A from what I can see. Now, regarding tuners the stock pieces seem to be Gotoh GB7 lightweights which are hard to find and very expensive when I can. I like the Hipshot UL's and love the company but would like to retain the stock look if possible so that's where I am torn.

I believe I got mine from Link Removed and yes they're around $18.00 each.

Those are the regulars at $18.00. They have a different key style than the stock piece.

I think the originals are more like this:

You are correct, I found that the GB707's (part number) were way overpriced here in the U.S. and almost impossible to find. They're only around 11 EUR or $15 in Europe, go figure - so I decided I'd rather have black tuners that fit the existing holes in the CF rather than the exact key shape at a premium price. The ones I pointed out are great and have the same 20:1 ratio as the GB707's - very smooth, don't even notice a difference in how they perform and keep the bass in tune.

Gotoh GB350 res-o-lite weight pretty much the same as the Hipshot UL, but they are indeed more expensive (allparts has them for $36~42).
The bridge, OEM, on the Modulus is indeed an Hipshot product, 'A' or 'B', depend on the bass model.
In my experience Alu and Brass, especially on a 'A' bridge make definitely a difference in weight (there's a lot of mass there).
Sound wise, the Brass is more compress and less open than the Alu which is also a little brighter and less solid in the lows (IME/O)

I played two gigs this weekend - one was with my EBMM StingRay and the other was with my Modulus Flea bass (Bart pup and 3-band Bart pre). To say the least, the Flea bass killed the StingRay in almost every department. I'll make an actual write up comparing the two basses in a little while.

Well, my Q5 arrived today and, for apparently having been passed around more than Pam Anderson this past year, it's in amazingly good condition. Except for some of the hardware being crapped out all the important stuff looks nearly new. Body, finish, neck, frets, all excellent. Man, it's surprising. It shows up, in tune, with the action as good as any bass I have had. So, as soon as I can make some time I'll play it a bit and give it a little once over with some clean and polish. Decide on some hardware and take some new glamour shots. Pretty good NBD. :D

Hi all,

Here's my Q6 with the new Bartolini Quad coils (with parallel humbucking, single coil, and series humbucking switches) and Aguilar OBP-3 preamp, wired volume push-pull (pull for passive), blend, mid push-pull, and treb/bass stack. The knobs are all ebony. Drilling done via drill press, shielding by me as well. Sounds great. Very versatile with the pickup switches, but in general very deep, sounds great in the mix.

I've owned one bart/bart bass (barts were soapbars) and two Bart/Aggie basses (barts here were all quad coil), and I have to say I'm a fan of both sounds. Bart/bart to me was hi-fi, sounded great as a solo instrument (wasn't a modulus, though). Bart/aggie seems deeper, or that it sits better in my performance mixes (pop/rock, funk, reggae, christian). You could always pick up a used OBP that matches your current knob configuration and drop it in. If you don't like it, you can resell it for the same amount, and you'll only be out shipping. I've noticed that the used market for those is consistently good...the used ones don't stay on the forum for long!
