Modulus Mob

It depends on the year. Truss Rod? Pictures?

It's a '99. Trussrod, yes. No pics, but I have seen it and it is "immaculate", with the exception of one tiny ding on the edge of the body. Otherwise, it looks brand new.

I'm not sure if the fingerboard is Grenadillo (sp?) or Chechen. I don't think they were using Chechen back in '99, now that I think about it. Regardless, it's in excellent condition and the frets are nearly perfect.

Hey Modulus Mobbers...

What do you suppose a Quantum 5 Wide w/Barts and Chechen fingerboard is worth on the used market? Let's say it's in "immaculate" condition.

I don't own one. Just curious what is reasonable to pay for one.
IMHO, if it's a more modern model w/ a truss rod and in mint condition I would say in the $1600-$1800. A couple years ago I bought a brand new quilt Q5W for $1500.00 but it seems like those days ar egone. The wides are harder to find as well. Used regular Q5's seem to be in the $1400 - $1500 currently.

Offer $1200.00...

I just sold my Q5W for $1200. In minty condition. Quilt top too. I guess they really go for as much as someone wants to pay for it at that time. If you catch someone at the right time who wants it then you should get above $1200, but if no-one is looking or someone is on the fence, you are not going to get the higher price.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the specs are on the qw5 Wide were they any different than on the SPI-5 Wide ? as far as the Neck is concerned? thats the first question....

My Second question is what are the Specs for the qw5 Wide, I read on Modulus site that the string spacing is 22.25 MM and Ive got the specs on the neck width at the nut, and at the 24th fret, However Im looking for the Thickness at the 1st Fret and thickness at the 24th Fret, So I can figure out the Radius , Im considering having a friend / Luthier custom build me a 35 Wide 5 with 22.25 mm string spacing. I just love the Modulus Wide 5, and I dont see them Used if any at all, so Im contemplating having one built?

My 3rd Question, what is the Bridge that Modulus uses for the 22.25 MM String Spacing

I really appreciate any and all Links or specs on these questions Im asking...Ive spent countless hours, searching the internet, Foreign and domestic, so I thought I would ask a few questions from the Modulus Mob...Thankyou Terry

P.S If Anyone Has a Modulus QW5 with the 22.25 String Spacing...Please let me know, Im interested in purchasing one in a couple of months, so I thought I would put out the feelers now, as it may take that long to find one?

This is interesting. I owned a QW for a short time and recall that the spacing is noticably wide. I thought it was 19mm but have since read that it.s 21.5 and you say you found that it's even more than that! I think my current Q5 is regular old 17mm.

I know there were some 19mm models out there:

But this thread references 21.5:

So, not sure just what's going on. I als believe that they used a Hipshot "A" style bridge.

I have just got to say that everytime I play my Modulus Bassstar, I just cant stop. The more I play the more I want to play. What an absolute joy my bass is. So comfortable, so full of tone, very vintage rare unique Bassstar 5 string.. Man I like this bass!

I was wondering (since I am lusting for a Q5 for months now) if EMG and Bartolini pickups dimension in a Q5 is the same and they can be replaced easily. Looks like I can see only Bart equipped Q5s for sale nowadays.
Thank you

Yup. Have no fear of that. I have pulled the Bart's from the two Q5's (one w/ reg 17mm spacing and one 'wide' 19mm spacing) that I have owned and replaced them (and the preamps) with EMG's. The EMG size 40 size (DC, J, P5, etc.)is correct for the regular 5. I can't recall if the Q5W used the 45 series 6 string version though.

Yes, they are absolutely interchangeable - in fact, if you are ordering a bass, Modulus will gladly install EMG pups instead of Barts. I'm currently waiting on a custom 34" scale / 26 fret Q5 with a Chechen top and EMG 40DC pups.
