Quick question. Have a VJ coming tomorrow with the passive Bart setup and want to drop some EMG's in there.

Q: Is there enough room in the control cavity for the 9-volt?

No, there is not enough room. I tried to do the exact thing...I wanted to put active pups in a VJ and I had to dremel out a massive pocket for the battery....it was a pain and I ended up not even doing it b/c it was such a pain in the butt. PLUS when you go to change the battery you are going to have to take the strings off and the pickguard. Barts FTW!

Dumb question but is it rear routed? I had EMG's (J's and JV's) and a BTS pre in mine and had no trouble at all.

Thanks sleep_monkey and nervous. Yep doesn't look like it will work, just got it today and it is rather tight in there and not rear routed. John East maybe. First have to deal with another issue as well, ordered a satin neck and received a gloss one.

Sorry to hear that. I've heard that Mod has very good customer support for warrantied instruments. They will hopefully take care of you.

FWIW I have owned both and once the gloss neck had been played a while I noticed no difference at all. The last gloss neck Q5 I had was just slippery smooth and fast.

I got a passive VJ in red coming to me shortly. I think I will have my local guy rout for a dual 9v bater box on the rear and throw a john east or an acg filter in the sucker. Pics to follow.

All VJ's have truss rods, yes?

I would like to know from anyone how differently the Genesis 5'er and a Quantum 5'er play? I mean, since the Genesis is wrapped in wood, how differently do they feel? Also, for the Q5 people, does your bass have a wood or frenolic board?

A 93 Q5- Soon I will switch out for an EMG set up. Fret board is either Chechen but it appears to be too dark for that or Grandillo (sp)

So I watched a RHCP show on Palladia the other day and it seems Flea is back w/ Modulus, or at least using his main caramel-burst one w/ the stickers on it, plus a few others.
Is he back as an "artist" or just using some old gear and just refurbed, painted, etc.?

I don't own either one at the moment, but to me the feel was quite different. The two main things are that the spacing on the Genesis 5 is 19mm, while the spacing on the Quantum 5 is 17mm (though there's now a 19mm option). Also, the Genesis didn't have the same "zing" and sustain as the Quantum neck with phenolic board did. It's been a while since I played one, though.

na. there was a base model VJ in red from west chester music in PA on the bay. i got it for 1100. Had I waited, i would have gone for that black vj on TB. but I am very happy.

I have a 97 VJ neck and a 2002 (?) VJ neck, both without rods.

Ditto I have a 97 VJ with no rod. Just had a fret level and my tech was cursing that fact!

Mine is passive with Bart's too. I love it. For those of you getting new ones and wanting to swap out right away, try it as is a bit. I was planning on adding a pre or something as well. But, now I love it as is. Sounds very sweet. Obviously, IMO.

I think I bought a non truss rod model. the headstock photo has the older modulus logo (the one with the small writing under the modulus).

Anyone here know where one could get a hex wrench for my Q5? I just bought a second hand one an it could use a hair of relief. If anyone has and extra I could possibly buy or borrow please PM me ill handle all the shipping cost via PayPal if it's a loaner.
