Modulus Mob

Iriegnome,

I had both Q5s and Genesis 5s. The Genesis is more of a take on a traditional super J while the Q5 felt and sounded modern but with a lot of tonal flexibility. I played my Genesis 5 fretted and fretless way more than the Q5's. I liked the 19mm feel on them better and the body just suited me more ergonomically.

Both have amazing B strings and both do their own thing very well.
Of the 4 of them, I only have my Genesis 5 fretless left. The Genesis seemed to fit better on my gigs.

On the album in my sig I recorded all my fretted parts on my Genesis (the Fretless parts were on a Zon Sonus). It might give you a feel for it's uncolored sound, or at least some aspects of it. As with many basses, they are pretty versatile.

Um, EMG does make a MM5.

I was going to post the same thing but it appears that the MM pickup in the 5 string Modulus has the tabs or 'ears'. The EMG MM5 pickup seems to be a direct fit replacement for the Ernie Ball Stingray 5 which doesn't have the side tabs.

I wonder if you could specify an EMG MM5 pickup for the FU 5 string if ordering directly from Modulus (if they do such a thing). The pickup routing would have to be slightly different.

Here is my purple stone quantum 5 with Barts and 3 band eq, my favorite bass yet! Ive had it 2 weeks and I want to restring it anyone can recommend some long lasting growly strings to put on her. She came with old elixirs but I want something warmer in the low end and some snap in the high end.

I use D'Addario XL strings which is what Modulus uses when they ship the basses out.

Nice bass...mine is very similar in finish!

Very nice, I have actually been pretty happy with GHS Boomers on my FU4, nice growl and good tension.

Hi Mob friends,

Just an FYI for you, I've decided to test the waters with a FS/FT on my Quantum 6 whose upgrade pics have been posted here in the last 6 months. Sadly, while moving steel pan cases all over the place last year, I tore something in my wrist (band director's injury). My left wrist hasn't been the same since, and I've got to stick with 34' scale now, and 5-6 string max (I had two 7s in the past). Let me know if you or someone you know is interested. It's in the classifieds. :crying:

Hey there, Mob! I've been reading your posts throughout the day and would like to join in on the fun. I got my first Modulus Q5 about 2 weeks ago and am in love. :D I had been struggling for a few years with a lower-end Ibanez 5-string and just couldn't get the sound that I wanted. After much research I took a chance and ordered this baby. What a difference! Finally a low B string that sings – and amazingly even sound throughout the range of the instrument.
