Monster power or Furman?

fair enough, but i would expect that the pros would have called them on it as soon as they hit the market.in your state where brownouts occur and i assume hydro electric power is not as easily obtained as it is here, what effect,if any, does that have on day to day operation of electronic gear...........if you meter the average duplex receptacle at any given time is it fairly consistent..

...uneven voltage output has been mentioned to me in a sales pitch but it is unclear to me that it would even be possible to rectify that even if it were true

What makes you think pros haven't called them on it?

Remember, you're more likely to see advertisements for fortune tellers and palm readers than ads saying that they are frauds.

Perhaps they're designed to solve imagined problems, not actual ones. It's not the first time there's been a market for unnecessary protection against non-existent threats.

Bob, I've read through this entire thread...and quite frankly agree with most of what you have to say regarding power conditioners and their overall effectiveness...And I think QSC make great quality products...but man, I have got to tell you...to have someone like you, representing QSC by using their name in your sig and in your TB user name, come out and be condescending and pompus to people who are ligitimately asking specific questions is really putting me off. I could go back through this thread and pull 3 or 4 comments by you that are just downright condescending...no one was being condescending to you....

I'm sorry dude, but if you are going to represent your company here, you should do it with a little more tact and class IMO...

Now, let the flaming begin...

+1

I was about to say the exact same thing.

I'm sorry if you feel I'm being pompous and condescending.

I assume that most people don't want to spend money that they don't have to. I assume that most people, when they do spend money, want it to be on something worthwhile, that actually does something.

That's why I object to the marketing of power "conditioners" as necessities by those who play to fear, uncertainty and doubt among consumers.

Everyone pile on Bob!!!:D

In his defense, these threads come up at least every two months and are a frustrating topic. If it wasn't Bob lobbing one liners it would be Bill F. My guess is the first 10 threads were somewhat more diplomatic. I think Monster cable threads are the only ones that trump this one. Notice Monster makes both products.

Object away!...no one minds if you voice your opinion and back in up with facts, thats what this forum is all about...But no one likes being spoken to like they are idiots...

Read back through what you've posted in here, and tell me if you would appreciate it if someone spoke to you like that...especially someone thats supposed to be representing a quality organization like QSC...

I am glad Bob takes the time to posted here. If guys like him that actually know about this stuff didn't post then the myths would keep circulating. After all most of us that post on this forum are just dumbass bass players.:) For another good myth check out the post about underpowering speakers in the Yamaha PA thread. :rollno:

now thats some good reading...
i will say spending $200 on a just power conditioner is probably a little crazy (which i have since come around too)
im am however still going to get one.
i remember reading about big name bands not using walmart power strips on this thread and i'll have to agree.. i mean p-nut has that $1600 monster power regulator sitting in the bottom of his rig.. and i doubt its not just there to be used as a paper weight.. even though a conditioner and a regulator are completely different, it's still not a bad idea

Haha....oh so the demo that I saw every day at work was completely BS and wasn't regulating the power?

It was just to show one extreme to the other.
Yeah, and I can set up a demo that shows a grand piano exploding on stage. It doesn't mean you should buy explosion insurance for your grand piano, because if your grand piano *does* explode, you've got bigger problems than the damage to the piano.

Does anyone make a rack mounted power strip that doesn't claim to be anything other than that, and is priced appropriately?

Somebody should get on that. It would be nice to neaten up a rack without paying the pseudo-science surcharge.
Do a search for 19" rackmount PDU. That will turn up a ton of stuff from the computer world. It looks like the going rate for an 8-outlet one with no fancy bells and whistles is about $100, which seems reasonable.
