Monster power or Furman?

Does anyone make a rack mounted power strip that doesn't claim to be anything other than that, and is priced appropriately?

Somebody should get on that. It would be nice to neaten up a rack without paying the pseudo-science surcharge.

I bought a rack-mount 6-outlet strip (4 on the back, 2 in front) with a master switch, 15A breaker, and MOV surge suppression for about $59 (IIRC) about 11 years ago when I first assembled my current main rig. I don't remember the brand off the top of my head. It's mounted to the rear rails of my rack case behind the preamp.

Yeah, and I can set up a demo that shows a grand piano exploding on stage. It doesn't mean you should buy explosion insurance for your grand piano, because if your grand piano *does* explode, you've got bigger problems than the damage to the piano.

:D

Bob, I've read through this entire thread...and quite frankly agree with most of what you have to say regarding power conditioners and their overall effectiveness...And I think QSC make great quality products...but man, I have got to tell you...to have someone like you, representing QSC by using their name in your sig and in your TB user name, come out and be condescending and pompus to people who are ligitimately asking specific questions is really putting me off. I could go back through this thread and pull 3 or 4 comments by you that are just downright condescending...no one was being condescending to you....

I'm sorry dude, but if you are going to represent your company here, you should do it with a little more tact and class IMO...

Now, let the flaming begin...

Not a flame Fish. Well, hopefully not.

I might represent "the other side" of what you observed & noted regarding QSC. It builds my faith in their products & has me think of them as "AntiMonsters"; making products & advertising them based on reality & not on spin.

As for the condescension, I think that started WITH the repeated & echo'ed ignoring of Electrical Physics. Not disagreeing with your point on that, but there is a level of conduct we should all hold ourselves to in here. And frankly, some of us dislike the smell of snake oil more than others.

The reason I have stayed away from Monster products is I beleive that most of the Marketing is hype to sell overpriced merchandise.

Furman has been around since 1983 and has a proven track record.

Remember the Monster cable scandle a few years ago.

Then they have the rackmount units that cost 1500 dollars or more. Thats insane.

I think Furman is the best most proven bang for the buck when it comes to music gear period.

thank you for the input
i did not know that about monster cables,
when i started playing bass (quite some time ago) the sells man just said monster was the way to go.. being ignorant, i went with that.. the life time warranty is nice, and has come in handy..

but yeah, as far as power products it looks like furman knows what they are doing, and not to pricey

The way the economy is going "Lifetime warranties" dont mean much to me anymore its all about a companies track record.

Would you buy a GM if they offered a Lifetime warranty on their car right now?

What is your amp? Your sig says GK unless your using a 2001 a 15 will work effects don't use much power. I have a 1001 a korg tuner, shure wireless and Dbx compressor plugged into my 15 amp furman.

A 20A power strip would require a 20A plug and consequently a 20A outlet. Your amp has a 15A plug, so a 15A power strip would be fine.

I run a Furman 20amp and it has the extra converter cable so it works in a standard outlet. No problems with it and I run two power amps at once on my guitar rig with it.

I would get a 20amp Furman like I suggested that way you dont have to upgrade later but buy it second hand.

yeah those things are really expensive.

yes my 700rb-II is 15 amp, but that's not all i will have plugged into it. also tuner and a ton of effects.

basically what im asking is, what kind of stuff is 20 amp? i'd imagine large amps and stuff that takes a lot of power.. i'd like to know so i dont have to like upgrade like BlackElan said.

that's good information. 15 would be way nicer on my wallet. and if it can run everything i dont really see the point of having a 20
