Aha, I bought a Moon JB-5 Sutoh Mode (DLP version) in March.
I'm a fan of Mr. Sutoh, and really love his blue JB-5 when I saw his performance in 2018 TRIX Live.
The sound is really like Mr. Sutoh's sound.

The blue Sutoh Signature is in my top two (I can’t pick a favorite) favorite bass tones ever. Warm, colorful tone with lots of articulate highs. Congrats! I’m pretty jealous!

Some POS scammer answered my ad looking for an 80s vintage Moon bridge via PM (telling me to email his friend who isn’t on TB), and I was so pleased by finding a needle in a haystack, he managed to rip me off while I was not paying attention. It was such an easy to spot scam, I really have nobody to blame but myself.

By the time I’d got back to TB to report, the guy’s account had vanished, along with our conversation.

Lessons learnt:

1. Does this TBer have history? Likes? Feedback? Make sure you look first. A “Commercial User” designation is what won my confidence, but it can be easily spoofed.
2. Never accept a referral off-board.
3. If the person you’re corresponding with writes like a small, preoccupied child, don’t walk away, run.
4. Forget about your good fortune in finding something for a minute, and think critically about how this person is conducting business.

Just my opinion but I think the blue Sutoh Jazz Bass sounds better than the other Sutoh signatures and you know it’s not because of the color. It’s the only Sutoh with Oxales. I find this video and YKY’s channel very helpful.

I ordered a DJB 5 with 70’s spacing and J pickups with slant neck Pup. It comes in sometime this year! I’ll upload a demo video when it’s finished!

I sized up the pickguard (and I’m a clear pickguard kind of guy) and I love how it looks with it on. Trying to muster the courage to install this thing!!

I am looking at a very nice Moon 5-string active jazz with a Bartolini XTCT preamp. The serial number has worn out (?), but there is a very intriguing number both on the neck heel and the corresponding body groove. I know '99 production Moon simply can't be a #001, but what could this actually mean? Start of a series or a LE? a major dealer's order?

Also, wondering why would they use an A250K pot on bass instead of an A500K. Could you please elaborate on this?

I don't understand their serial numbers at all. My J-J175 doesn't have a serial number at all.

Their choice in electronics have always been weird in general, even the pickups. My Jazz bass has a .27 uf capacitor non standard type.

In regarding to the 001 number, I'm not sure exactly what it is, my bass has it too, made in 2000. Considering how early the date is and how small their production is, I'd say number 1 of the batch would make sense. Their serial is basically the unit made of that model starting in the 1000. There's one Jazz bass for sale a few months ago with 1 (one) unit higher serial than mine and it's basically the same bass, so it's safe to assume that that one was made right next to mine.

It's hard to tell from the serial alone, usually you identify the bass by their hardware and headstock and some other small details, then use the serial to gauges the spectrum within the era it was made.

250k is standard for typical single coils. 500k is standard for typical humbuckers. This usually works pretty good and I tend to stick with it but pot values can be changed for a different sound and sometimes taper. If you swapped those in those examples it would still work but a single coil would become louder and possibly more bright sounding with a 500k , the HB would be less output and darker with a 250k. +\-

So Moons serials. A typical visible # seems a little like a after thought for them. Mine is barely printed and its 0040. So you may very well have #1.
