because the pickups arent angled it wouldnt create uneven sound.. But it would alter it to be a bit on the treble side since the treble side of the pickups is closer to the bridge.

IMHO I think with the current pickup layout that bass is going to have a very bright tone to it. But then again what do I know..

Think of a guitars pickups as you get closer to the neck it becomes more bassy and warm. The same rules would apply to this. Hence a strat and a tele have there treble side angled closer to the bridge in that position to give it the signature twang.

Uneven sound wouldnt be a problem I dont believe because there is still a pickup there just in a different location then the standard fanned fret models everyone is used to seeing. Which would even the tone out by bringing the treble side closer to the neck and the bass side further away.

Maybe the combination of body woods would alter that slightly.

I guess we just won't know what the bass is gonna sound like 'til it's finished. I don't like the look of angled pickups, not to say it wouldn't sound better/worse. With the Glockeklang active preamp, I think the overall effect will be minimal if noticeable at all. Taking in consideration to notice any "difference" I would have to have played the same bass with angled pickups.

This may be, I'll EQ pre and post amplification. I wasn't really going for a "sound" with straight as opposed to angled pickups. Carey wound the pickups knowing they were to be mounted straight. I think he would have set them as they "should" sound... or how he wants his pickups to be heard. I'm hoping I like Nordstrand. After much discussion with Carey, we concluded a MM bridge and a Quad coil neck was perfect for this bass project... we'll see. :)

I recommend checking in to Head Guitars. Jeff is the consumate luthier... affable, accountable, reliable, and capable. I can say designing this bass with Jeff has been a pleasure. We are currently designing an 8 string guitar and will design a stick bass in 3-6 months.

Jeff's pricing is on an individual basis, I think. I can say he is probably the most reasonable luthier out there... not Wishbass affordable, but you're getting more for your dollar with Head Guitars than 99.99% of builders out there. This may not last long, as Jeff's guitars are making a name for his company and rightfully so... he is the man, he can build anything you can imagine, and he is a great guy.

Any questions, drop a line to Jeff and get yourself a bass/guitar of your own design... whatever you want... now that's what I'm talking about!

I agree!!! Jim is making my "Dragon Bass" which can be seen in my thread as well as Head Guitars site!!!..He is a great person to work with !!!!:bassist::bassist:
