Morgan MP200 all-tube amp = mmm?

Maybe I have been out of the loop to long? Standard was 60-75 watts per pair of KT88's, 120 to 150 for a quad and his plate voltage is only 550volts?

A quad of KT88s will give you 200W but your plates will be running around 600V. IMHO it would have been better with a sextet for better reliability.

yeah but we hear those notes way more from their second harmonic than their fundamentals.

I think you're confusing two separate issues.

Many listening tests have been carried to tests the limits of human hearing using synthesized sine waves. No harminics to speak of. Most people can hear down to 20 Hz.

Now, we can ALSO hear stuff down there that doesn't even exist, if the right harmonics are there to "fool" us. That's a different issue.

My main tone is overdriven think Converge ETID etc and since im not playing stadiums don't fancy bursting eardrums.

I have an MP200 in use daily.
Mike adjusted the overdrive to my needs, by putting a "pull gain" function on the gain control, so I can get in to overdrive at almost any volume level if I want to.

The overdriven tone is extremely flexible and very usable for me.

why not raise the plate voltage more and lower the screens? Can get 220W out of a quad without any problems.

I'm of the mind set that just because you can doesn't mean you should.

To be honest, I really can not understand what use internet sound clips would be to someone.....

My advise is to try to get out and actually hear equipment first hand.

Also, Joe Morgan gave me a grace period when I purchased his amp, so if I didn't like it I could return it. So it was a relatively safe purchase.

And after working with Joe, and experiencing first hand how important my satisfaction in his amp was to him, I have absolutely ZERO reservations about recommending a Morgan to ANYBODY looking for a first class, hand made in the USA all tube amp.

The amp has given me EVERYTHING I have searched for in an amplifier for the past 20+ years, and has never failed to do anything I have demanded from it.

I'm not exactly a TB regular, but I couldn't agree more to that. Most people will be listening to internet sound clips through 2 inch speakers, at best with a quite small sub under the desk. It's just not going to sound the same as a 4x15 (or whatever) is it?

Slightly off-topic, but I was particularly impressed with the dovetail joints - seems to show a real attention to detail in a part of construction that will in all likely never be seen by anyone.

I've never had a problem running kt88's at that kinda voltage or el34s for that matter, it's better for the valve to have the screens lowered and doesn't really matter as much in a guitar amp.

It'll do "big and distorted" with the best of them (think Orange AD200B) or she'll do big and clean as well as everything in between!

Not that I don't love the B15. I really do. I just wanted to give bass players an amp that they could use in a club with a drummer and guitar player.

Nice tones 'jibreel'! Wish I could afford it. I'm looking into getting a couple of derelict amps from 'the bay of e' for parts and build something myself. I won't have that tone stack, tho.
