Morgan MP200 all-tube amp = mmm?

i think bill fitzmaurice said the human ear taps out at 80 hz. however, you do tend to notice frequencies below that if they're not there, even if you can't hear them. 9 hz is riduculous, though. most engineers will filter out everything below 60-80 hz anyway.

peter, i wish i could find the thread where greenboy posted a bunch of waveforms of the low notes on a 5 that showed that the second harmonic is like 3-4x louder than the fundamental, then others started posting their own waveforms that demonstrated the same thing. otherwise, i'm not good enough at explaining it myself. but i came away from that thread totally convinced.

Just that I've been gigging with the MP200 pretty steady these past few weeks, and she is everything I have ever wanted in a bass head!

Gorgeous, thick and creamy clean tone, and an overdriven tone as subtle or as filthy as any bass amp I have heard.

Really easy to get good sound, and I am yet to have a situation the amp can not handle.

Best amp purchase I have made in over 25 years of playing. Not a single bit of regret!

I had a chance to play through the MP200 with my SVT 810 cab. Also did some A/B comparison with my SVT-VR.

From a power standpoint, I couldn't really tell the difference between the 200w MP and SVT. It definitely puts out the power.

The MP200 a great sounding amp. Different then the SVT but in the same 'hood if you want to EQ it that way. Overall, I'd call it more neutral then the SVT - less honky then an SVT flat and less extreme then an SVT with bright and deep on. More Genz-Benz - ish, if you will with the nice smooth breakup when cranked. Joe's Focus control is very cool and fairly unique, I think - adding a lot of flexibility. It shifts the EQ center point for the whole tone stack brighter or deeper.

I prefer the MP200 tone over the Marshall VBA400 and Eden E300T although I didn't do a direct comparison with those. I'm an SVT kinda guy and I could easily run an MP200. Its the same kind of plug-in minimal fiddling goodness. Plus its 1/2 the weight which makes hefting it on top of the 'fridge seem like a breeze.

Joe's a great builder who's earned an esteemed reputation for his guitar amps. I'd say the MP200 is no exception for the bass world. When I can, you'll see one of these on my backline.

Also with that in mind I kept the plate voltage down to 550.

The trannie set is huge I originally wanted to keep it within the size of my guitar chassis....but -

May I be so bold as to ask why, as you had the OPT wound specifically for this amp, did you not include a 2Ω tap?? 4Ω cabs are readily available but few bass amp designs can run a pair of them.
