I’m a big fan of 1.5” nut widths, thin necks front to back, and have minimal finish (oil or raw are my favorites). Of my basses, my Ibby SR 500 neck is great (very thin front to back and raw).
My absolute favorite is my EBMM Big Al 4 SSS which is the same as an EBMM Sterling neck. Just a little thicker than the Ibby but perfectly comfy and the oil and wax finish is heavenly. I truly believe that EBMM might make the best necks on the market.
I’ve got a Warmoth Jazz neck in roasted maple with an ebony board and the “slim taper” profile on order for a project which I’m hoping will be perfect for me. I’m really stoked about it.
I think the neck feel makes the bass as much as any other characteristic. Neck feel is 1, tone is 1a to me.
