Most difficult bass song ever!!

not saying it's impossible, I actually re-learned a lot of the Japan stuff recently, but when Mick Karn is rolling it's pretty dificult to keep up with him... a song I always had trouble with was "Dali's Car" by Dali's Car... you can play the runs, the chords etc, but remembering it all, catching the change in feel, and the silences, all pretty tough stuff.

The verses on "Still Life In Mobile Homes" is really dificult to remember all the quick slides... possibly the toughest Japan song... IMO...

no, ALL of the parts, Keys, Bass, Guitar, Vocals, and Drums.

Without looping? The entire arrangement SIMULTANEOUSLY? Can't be done.

:hmm:

With the bar set that high, there are thousands of songs that would qualify.

Like playing "Sex Machine" with the vocals, two drum parts, two guitar parts, keys and the horn section harmonies. Heck, most people can't even play just the bass part;)

Don't I know it! That song gave me the fits forever. The bassline is so slippery. I've always had fairly lousy technique though, (I'm not very economical in muscle use), so this one took me some time to get. It was many years back though, after fiddling with it and just cheating on the line, that after I focused on it, and had motivation, (a band I respected that wanted me), that I really felt it.

So... what is this poster talking about playing all of the parts?
:hmm:

Hell, even Jaco looped the bassline when he did Third Stone from the Sun.

You can't play drums, keys, bass, guitar, etc. without looping. Any attempt to say that you can is silly. I think of Brian Bromberg playing "Come Together" and "All Blues" solo on an album of his, (can't recall the title right now), but that was not played with each part wholly demonstrated. Bromberg alludes to the drums in several instances by percussively playing the body of his DB. Bromberg will allude to guitar sections with chords on the DB.

Saying that one could play all of the parts, live, no looping, to a multi-instrumental song is silly. Hey, I wanna do an Earth, Wind, & Fire tribute album, playing all of their greatest hits, on bass only. I'm going to do not only the guitar, keys, bass, drums, and entire horn section, but also the vocals and harmonies, all on my Fender. I'm starting with September, then we can boogie on ... DOWN! DOWN! Boogie on DOWN!

Feh, YYZ and La Ville are classic Rush tunes that any Rush Aficianado ( and Im one) figured out when they were 17...

Now then, Listen to Kajagoogoos Too shy.. and tell me that Stuff aint hard!!
Or the Bass line for Paul Simons You can call me Al

Yeah...Im in an 80s band....

+1 on "Too Shy" and "You Can Call Me Al" -- not easy.

"Teen Town" - Weather Report or Marcus Miller. Yikes.

Spastic Ink - A Chaotic Realization of Nothing Yet Misunderstood
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Shocktimes
Planet X -Ignotus Per Ignotium
Prince - Lady Cab Driver (The groove is soooo tight, and there's this slight triple thump embedded)
Spiral Architect - Spinning
Adam Nitti - The Divine Wind (This dude is awesome)

Classical Thump is easy if you get the dubbel thump.

In my opinion Jaco pastorius - Chromatic fantasy. It might not be the hardest in the world but it sure is a pain for me.

yeah, chromatic fantasy is crazy, and not that interesting to listen to, lol

i did however learn the first... quarter of the song, maybe, before I lost interest/memory capacity...

Classical Thump seems impossible to me..

you say that now, but eventually you'll wonder why you thought it was so hard...

actually, nevermind, you can say that about other songs but classical thump is pretty much a perpetual difficulty... later it will seam more possible, but still hard

lol, I remember thinking I'd never be able to play aeroplane by red hot chili peppers... that song is too easy lol

:hyper: With all the comments in this post, I would agree with some of them, I've been,,for the past few years now looking very closely at Vic. Wooten, Marcus Miller etc. style and incorporating some of that technique into my own and there has been abit of excitement with Stanley Clarke appearing on the scene more and more these days as well. One of the more challenging bass lines I've come across is off of Pete Townsends "White City" album,, (early to mid 80s,, I think)called Give Blood. It's done on a fretless by Pino Palladino and is full of so much groove and texture, I get goosebumps everytime I hear it. That is definatly one to look into :hyper:
