Most difficult bass song ever!!

helios, greetings earthlings, actually pretty much anything by michael manring

same goes for jeff schmidt

(and) Can anyone sayyyy Brian Bromberg??? (check out anything on his 'Jaco' album or 'I'll Remember April" on Wood II - or 'Carry On Wayward Son' same disc for the classic rock types).:bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

how about 'Heart Of The Sunrise' by Yes. that song has (in certain places) 2 basslines and it is 10:29 in the studio.
just about everything by Yes deserves mention.

This, too, gets a :rollno: . Probably a :scowl: . Yes takes practice, just like Rush. "Heart of the Sunrise" took me 20 minutes, tops. It's long but there's only 3 or so parts that repeat through the whole thing.

geez

i forget the author but it was almost 40 years ago when i was in high school jazz band we were doing stuff in 19/4
that was a challenge to count
let alone play

at that time and for that gig i was playing guitar
and our double bassist went onto become a professor and chair of the music department here at cal state

u know that mastering any of it just takes practice
and lots of it

Mr. Bungle's "Dead Goon".
Hands down the most difficult bassline of all time.
Ridiculously simple on paper, then you think about it and try to play it.

However, if we're gonna get into synth bass...
the opening theme / "bombing mission" from Final Fantasy VII.

I'll post a sound clip of each later because people might not be familiar with these.

"Hello Jeff" by Stanley off of Journey to Love is a fun workout

Another hard Palladino groove on White City is "Face the Face". Simple, but talk about stamina

Oh, and I won't even mention Tarkus....whoops - my badly

I'll give anybody here $5 if they can play just the turnaround from Havona . . . cleanly . . . at speed . . . on a fretless. Post your clips now!

+1

Havona is a toughie. Such an awesome song, too. I play it with my fusion group, so we end up having violin, keys, bass, guitar playing it all at once. Whew. It has taken us the better part of a year to get that moving. We also tend to rush a little on that song, so we end up at like 150BPM by the last time we play it. It starts at 136BPM.

+1, that song isn't nearly as hard as people might think... maybe if you're hearing it for the first time, but that would just take a few listens. Technically it's pretty simple, as are most of their songs IMO.

YYZ still gets me most times, I just can't nail that main groove down, and it's not for a lack of effort!

Also "The Glass Prison" by Dream Theater is insane, mostly for the stamina needed to get through all 14 minutes. Some stuff off their upcoming album "Systematic Chaos" is worthy of adding to this list too, but I'm not gonna get into that:p

Edit: most Yes stuff isn't too bad, but I just remember how much of a headache I get whenever I try to play "Future Times - Rejoice." That song has some seriously bizarre time changes!

YYZ and Tommy the Cat are not HARD. They're definitely difficult but they can easily be conquered through practice. I can play YYZ and Tommy the Cat perfectly now after constant practice but can still play nothing by Wooten.

u reckon u could tab em out for me then? i love those two songs and finding sheet music for them is hard, then again i could imagine the sheet music would be hard to read too :S i could do it by ear, but mine is not that great atm lol :ninja:

Check out Jeff Berlin's doing Cream's version of Crossroads. Jeff does an amazing job of playing Clapton's guitar solo.

Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey doing Donna Lee. Victor double-thumbing bebop and Bailey chordal backup. Then both of their solos.

Matt Garrison Duet 9/4 on his Live CD.
