That's largely because he played it on his fretless live, which makes it much more difficult. The recorded version was on a fretted bass. Beyond that, the setting is much more relaxed.
I dont wanna act like a jerk, but.... i just don't get manring. i know im gonna get yelled at for this but.. i just don't see the talent. It's all VERY pretty and VERY melodic, but then again, it's slow and spaced out. Which is not always a bad thing! but im just sayin. Stuff like *sorry, fanboyness shining through* Dream Theater, constantly up there at 160-208 bpm with stuff like the glass prison. Not to mention Dance of eternity changes signatures 48 times or so. but, thats beside the point. Other stuff thats really hard, Angels and Demons by angra. You have to do all those crazy runs, and you have to keep that pounding constant beat the whole song. so.... yeah. i just don't get manring.
I can't imagine being able to play Billy Sheehan chops.![]()
billy is somewhat of a joke when you break it down. he uses a 3,2,1,3,2,1,3,2,1 three finger technique making it so all his stuff feels that it's triplets, because it is. so all you have to do to get his techniques down is, learn the trooper, you will then be able to play billy sheehans songs.
no offense to any sheehan fans
its just the technical truth. It's difficult to impossible to have a beat in 4's using a 3,2,1,3,2,1 finger technique.
You don't see talent in Manring, but you see talent in dream theater?
Don't get me wrong, Dream Theater are very talented, but so is Manring.
I'd like to see ANY member of Dream Theater play something like Manring. Speed isn't everything buddy. Infact, Speed isn't anything.
You're hurting my head.
Sheenhan uses 3,2,1,2, 3,2,1,2,3 etc etc.
he really doesnt, if you watch the interview on youtube that he does he tells you straight out that he uses a 321 combo, I'll find it. though, interview is from awhile ago, he might have changed his combo... ehh. whatev. we are on a forum yelling at each other lol. so just gimme a minute and i'll post the link, and if im wrong... sorry lol.
And I don't see why people down down to Dream Theater, or Steve Vai or any of those "speed demons"I can't see much talent in that. Just noise. Fast noise.
Well, I could be wrong.
But, it's ignorant to call Sheehan a joke. I don't like him at all, but the man is talented at what he does.

because......... its............. difficult? really? really? difficult? it's hard to explain why..... uh... er... i think it's really the fact that if they just played it on the album, theyd be cool... but they play their hardest songs everynight for 3-4 hours a night which to me is really impressive. it's just that. it's really tecnical stuff, and analyse the **** is you don't believe me. it's the hardest stuff that you can do with runs and whatnot. done really fast. but that's not what alot of JM's solo stuff is aobut, he's a much more melodic player that has his bursts of shred every now and again. but whatever, agree to disagree is cool. eh?![]()

I'll admit that Myung is an EXTREMELY talented bass player, but I don't think it's something I would want to emulate. I tried my damndest to get into Dream Theater, and really just couldn't, and I would think that being a huge Rush fan would help, but it didn't - Dream Theater's problem is that they're too good for their own good, and never show restraint. Every goddamn song sounds the same, like Symphony X. Overly technical, cookie-cutter songs that only other musicians can appreciate. I can't listen to it.
Let's just say Dream Theater is impressive, but you almost never walk away humming a melody.
