To me its the Rickenbacker 4001V63! Just played one in a shop here, and not only was it so comfortable, it had had all the sharp edges shaved smooth! No binding jabbing up at you! Imagine a loobed Rickenbacker, if you like.

I'm not super keen about the headstock look, but the rest of it sure makes up for that little (IMO) aesthetic detraction. Stunning bass.

Some very cool stuff in this thread. I especially dig that Vadim and the first bass I thought of when I saw the title was that Warwick Infinity.

Of course I have to throw in a couple Stambaughs. There are a number of ones I like, but in terms of "elegant" these two sprang to mind:

The Ritter's here take the cake as far as looks, although in my short playing time with one i felt like it was
1. a heavy, massive, earthy feeling bass with very modern "pingy" tones.
2. not very "elegant," more, well, radical lol
