I think the top 3 bass models (in terms of usage among players) are
1. Fender Precision
2. Fender Jazz
3. Musicman Stingray

and I would say Rickenbacker might be number 4 or at least tied with several others. This would definitely be true if you count all the copies of precisions and jazz basses from several different manufacturers other than Fender (i.e. Sadowsky, etc.)
 
The results of the poll, so far, confirm my (admitted) bias.

35% of all working bassists play a Jazz variant (Fender, Lakland, Sadowsky, etc).

35% of all working bassists play some sort of Precision variant.

Everything else, added together, covers the remaining 30%.

I still regret to this day since 79....but on a brighter side I sold my fender jaguar, 95 precision and mustang in 11/06 to raise funds to give some needy families a merry christmas !! ...Warwick-fretless sent to UK as present!...Tony Levin OLP SR5 given to Yvon(TBer in Canada) for Xmas...also.. Good God Man, how many of them did you play on a regular basis? I have been selling Bass left and right because I had 18 and played 4 of them.
