Carvin switched to Dunlop SuperBrights, so stock up on the old ones now if you like them.
2 major life-changing string events in my life...Chromes that came on a used P Bass that I bought about 10 years ago, and Dunlop Super Bright Nickels just a few days ago.

Pyramid Gold pure nickel flats thump like a kick drum. Nothing else comes close. Well GHS is in the ballpark. I finally moved away from Pyramid after trying several custom sets ordered direct from Germany. Great service and great strings but I went for heavier gauges on the A, D and G to even out the tone (the so called dead E is how they are supposed to sound). It worked like a charm, but after breaking several of my custom G and D strings the hassle and cost wore me down.
Anyway, on a hollow body nothing sounds like Pyramids. Everyone should try them at least once in a lifetime.

Thomastik Flats. I would have never believed they were worth that much more, but they are. I use them on every bass. The low B on my Jazz is great even. And they last forever in my world.
I have always been a Flats player, primarily TIs and La Bellas but I have been blown away by the tone, clarity, feel and everything with DR Fat Beams.

A pleasant (and obvious) side effect of these Cobalt flats is having a bright string without the finger noise. Being a lifelong rounds user, I kinda dig that. They sound great on my Classic Sabre.
Steve, Thank you for mentioning the Pyramid Gold strings' "dead E".
Recently I strung a nice Fender Precision Bass with Curt Mangan flatwounds and noticed the set's relatively dead E string, amplified or not. But I liked the strings very much overall, so I stuck with them. I had heard bad strings (that were truly dead and/or could not be intonated) and this was not that. This sounded different, but natural.
A few days ago I plugged that bass, with its Curtis Novak pickup and the Curt Mangan flatwounds (yes, two Curts), into my Kern preamp and just started playing. A few minutes later I stopped and smiled: I had achieved one of the classic Precision Bass sounds. It was as if I was listening to someone else playing. Fingerstyle or palm muted thumb picking, the sound was so canonical that it felt hyperreal as I heard myself play it.
Though I started playing bass guitar in 1979, after my first bass (a clean 1967 Standel hollowbody), I think I had almost no basses strung with flats. Halfwounds, yes, but not flats. So I never learned the nuances of flatwound strings.
Now I am completely into it. Not that all makes and models of flatwound string sets feature normally relatively dead E strings, but I am even into those that do. These Curt Mangan flatwounds are keepers.

Strung my bass with DR Highbeams today and they are my favorite SS rounds already. The tone is great - trebly with a perfect amount of growl. They feel incredible as well - light tension and slightly compressed outer windings for a smoother feel and to last longer.
I also loved GHS Precision Flats right away... Great thumpy tone right out the box.
And was pleasantly surprised with how much growl I got, even unplugged, with DR SS Lo Riders. Unfortunately, I only have one bass at the moment, and they are a little too growly for everything I play, so this bass needed something a bit tamer. Highbeams was much better for my needs, and I prefer the lower tension too.
I also loved GHS Precision Flats right away... Great thumpy tone right out the box.
