Mouth and throat dry out when singing

Looking for method to quickly alleviate throat that gets too dry when singing.

Not looking for advice like " hydrate during the day" etc. Am looking for something that can provide immediate relief at actual performance.

Sips of water not particularly effective.

When I used to sing a lot, there was a throat spray they sold at my local music store called Clear Voice. It worked surprisingly well.

But in the end, proper preparation and maintenance of your voice is the real key to long term vocal success. A spray or lozenge only helps with the symptom. Proper singing technique and good daily habits including hydration, warm (not iced) liquids…etc are the real key to long term success.

Don’t discount prep. One of my lead singers had a tea that he drank before every gig.

Also drinking alcohol or smoking may not help, unclear if that is relevant.

You indicate that you know what to do before you sing and that’s not what you are looking for. Kinda hard to answer sensibly without more info.

It is simply that I am aware of such matters as proper hydration, the inadvisability of smoking, drinking alcohol, etc. and am specifically looking for "hacks" for performance time itself.

Good singers I've worked with in the past did use lemon juice though I don't recall the deets. Just squirt some in your mouth?

Yep...
Some singers carried one of those plastic lemons of juice and would squirt a little in as necessary.

I always had throat lozenges in my gig bag. We would do four night stints often with an afternoon gig thrown in during the summer. The voice would get pretty scratchy. Probably not much help for dry mouth, but it was always my weapon of choice for the throat.

I use the football shaped Altoids that come in the narrow tin.

Eat some greasy potato chips right before getting on stage. All you need is one of those little single serve bags.

Have some throat juice: lemon juice, fresh ginger, honey. Make it warm, keep it in a little thermos to keep it warm, sip between songs.

No dairy before the gig. You probably wouldn't think of this one, but it makes a big difference. As a yogurt, cheese and milk lover, this one would be hard for me.
