Moving is a pain in the ass

Girlfriend of 5 years decided that the evening my father had a heart attack would be a good night to cheat on me. Walked in on her and another dude so I'm getting the hell out of dodge. Got the uhaul this evening after work and started loading up. Tomorrow begins the bachelor pad apartment lifestyle :smug::thumbsup:

We hired a company for our first big move. It turned out to be the most dishonest business I ever had to deal with and huge pain in the tookus. Never again.

I don't remember who they were but we hired a moving co. recommended by the real estate agent that was selling our old house. No problems , nothing broken , no damage of any kind. Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

That's a real crap deal you got there, but at least you had the self-respect to not put up with it. I'll have a beer for you tonight.

More time for video games and now you can have pizza more often!

It certainly is. The only part I found gratifying was throwing away half my possessions. The closing on my house is about three weeks away, and I cannot wait to not buy a house ever again. I'll live in a van before I do that, again.

We had a large dumpster delivered to the new house the day before the move. As the stuff was coming out of the moving van we stood there saying , upstairs bedroom , living room , dining room , and dumpster. It was quite full when we were done. A good mover makes all the difference in the world.

I'm not moving again. Ever. We live in a two story house. A friend of mine laughed when I told him I would never move again. Then I showed him the $35K quote I had made for am elevator on the side of my house. He stopped laughing.

I figure by the time I really need it, an elevator will be $50K. Still worth it. :D

My spouse and I made several moves because we couldn't synchronize graduating from school, and later, changing jobs. We got to be pretty experienced U-Haul drivers in some treacherous weather.

To those who aren't facing a move right away... start getting rid of stuff now. We sold or gave away a lot of treasures in Texas, that we honestly don't miss at all.

Our move, from the house full of junk we've been in for 21 years, will last ~two years. We bought our retirement home in October of 2017. Our plan is to be living in the retirement home (The Heber Home), full time, shortly after January 2020.

We have been slowly moving stuff since we first bought the place. The funny thing is that the Heber home looks completly full and ready to live in right now. But our current home looks no different (still full of stuff). HA!

Wishing you noting but good luck with that. How is your father?

Me and my wife moved from Atlanta, GA to Canada 4 months ago. We knew it would be a pain, but I never expected how much of a pain an international move would be. If we ever move back to the States, I swear we're going to get rid of everything and just pack a few suitcases.
