Mp3 player showdown!

Well that's something I guess. See my above comments.

That's really my only beef with the iPod. Every player has it's weak point/s.

Yea, just one of those things I guess. Personally, I like the fact that the battery isn't user-replaceable*. It produces a more solid product with less parts to break(battery casing/hinges and such) Additionally, it's things like that that enable the iPod to maintain such a slim form. Apple is always big on style and aesthetic, I'm sure they experimented plenty with and without user-replaceable batteries in R&D, if there was a way they could do it without sacrificing the iPod aesthetic and sturdiness, then I'm sure they would. Because Apple may be keen on aesthetics, but they are even more keen on stuff that looks good AND is functional(though sometimes you can't quite have both).

*for instance, in 2 years or so, maybe my iPod 40 GB won't be holding a good enough charge for my liking, for $65(after shipping) it is highly likely apple will just go ahead and give me a new iPod, and that ain't not bad.

I have an iPod 20GB, which my girlfriend gave to me, and used to have a Creative MuVo flash player, which I gave to my girlfriend. While the iPod looks really cool and interfaces well with iTunes, it tends to crash and lock up, as well as not be able to get through certain songs. There's no fix for this problem, and I've scoured the web for potential solutions.

The el-cheapo Creative MuVo (cost about $100) has had zero problems so far. It's the size of a lighter. It has an FM tuner. And it lasts about 20 hours on one replaceable AAA battery.

I think my girlfriend got the better deal.

What you're failing to mention is that your girlfriend's MP3 player is missing an screen. :hiding:

If I had a 40gig that's worked fine for 2 years I don't know that I'd want to trade out for a refurb, unless it's an updated model with new features. That might be ok.

It might be refurb, it might be new, it might just be replaced battery. Apple reserves the right to do whichever is cheapest/most convenient for them. Besides refurbs are almost always fine anyway, the only real problem with them is that they get on some people's nerves for not being totally crisp new. I would take a refurbished 6th generation iPod in 2 years over simply having the battery replaced on mine.
