I'm an OG Mr Black Bass OD buyer, having snagged one during the Black Friday $99 sale. Still loving mine, however I have noticed one weird thing about it. If I am playing it alone, it sounds amazing, but I find that if I am using my B3K and then switch to the Black OD, the Black OD has a weird, hollow sound to it. What I am trying to say is that it does not pair well with the B3K at all IMHO, probably because of the EQ curve of the B3K throwing my ears off. For that reason, I never use the B3K and the Black OD in the same song.
I have sort of found the same thing with the B3K and a few other pedals like the Big Game Bedlam and the Demon. I'm wondering if it's just my ears, or if it does have something to do with the EQ curve and how sounds interact. Again, not talking about stacking these pedals, but toggling from one to another.
Cool. Just to be clear though, on it's own I don't notice anything hollow about the Black OD's sound. It's only after I toggle to it after using the B3K that I notice this sound, which as we both surmise is probably just the ears being thrown off by the B3K's clear and obvious baked in EQ curve. I notice the same sound from my Bedlam, Demon and Pale Horse too after using the B3K. The best pedals I have found paired with the B3K are my Dungeon Master, Static Fuzz and Diabolik.I think its throwing your ears off. I noticed a hollow sort of sound when I first got my Mr Black too. But it has since went away. Something odd in the mids sound. I really think it just has a unique sound that most ODs don't have. I could be totally wrong though haha
I like it more every time I use it.Wow, I guess I didn't subscribe to my own thread and didn't notice that there were all of these replies! Too bad I missed out on it, I was already to jump on the black friday deal but just couldn't do it without hearing anyone else who's tried one. Maybe if he releases another set I'll grab one. Thanks for the info!

Yeah it's not awesome that i have to dime the bass knob. I mean, it doesn't HAVE to be dimed to get your low end in.
I just picked one of these up on Reverb after pawing through this thread. Very excited! I took a few moments to peruse the online manual and read something that will clear up the question in this thread about the bass (and treble) controls - 12 o'clock is neutral. Clockwise boosts and counter clockwise cuts. So you're only truly juicing your low/high end after 3 o'clock by design. It makes more sense if you think of it as a pre-amp rather than an OD pedal.
Hey what the heck happened to MGR? I just noticed he's banned.
Tru dat. I was dissapointed to see them sold out yesterday. Today when I went to the site they had them for sale. I think they are releasing them over the long weekend in drips and drabs. It's actually a great psychological trick to get people wanting them more and probably cements sales in much better.Crazy! They keep coming in and out. I think that people put them in their carts and don’t buy them.

i just ordered one. i've been thinking about getting one for a long time now, and this was a great time to pick one up.
Look forward to your diagnosis on the innards. First time I heard clips I thought it was tubescreamer based, now I'm thinking it sounds a bit more like an OCD variant, who knows it could be something else entirely!
