As for the "Want fretless? Get Jaco!" bull, why bother? Very obviously jazz and hard rock are two _very_ different things...so by saying that they should just listen to someone else YOU like in a genre YOU like that is totally different from this one, aren't you both limiting their ears to the souns of fretless bass? Not to mention limiting fretless to hard jazz, which you seem to want. What the hell is the problem? They are two VERY different things. Most of these listeners, in their defense, are listening for the overall picture, not for 1 instrument. They may be listening for 1 player, but not the instrument. I fail to see the relevance nor the point of bringing any of it up. That said, I love Jaco, but it's not hard rock. And this isn't jazz.

You know what the sad thing is? Half of this thread is trying to explain to people that Dig isn't the stuff to judge Ryknow by. That's kinda sad that after praising him, people would look a little Deeper than MTV...sheesh. And Angus, you're right: He and Spag are probably one of the best rythem sections in all of rock.

And as a last note, all of those that say he'd nothing, should (like Angus said) have some backup. I can say I'm better but have no proof. Give us proof of you doing better if you're gonna nark on the guy.

And lastly...Mudvayne? Live? Try not to get killed:D

Ack! I know what you mean! I almost got the **** kicked outta me in the pit... I was trying to get outta the pit! LoL! I heard mudvayne get on and scream some stuff and I was like.. ah shi*! Then I was half way out of the pit and they went crazy! hehe I finally got out and enjoyed them while cutting the lines for drinks! :)

Just to set the record straight, I wasn't actually trying to compare Tool to any of those bands, it was you who tried to elevate them above the others.
I believe that when you try and look to a band to provide all the opinions on one topic, then you aren't utilising music as it is intended. For example, Sepultura bring notice to the fact that the Brazilian tribes are being killed by multinationals. This is important to them, and I respect the fact that they can stand up for something they believe in, while it has a relevant meaning. For you to class another band's lyrics as more meaningful is plain and simple opinion, and also ignorance. Just because Tool's lyrics mean more to you than me doesn't mean that you have the right to try and elevate your music taste above mine. It's a simple defence mechanism that humans have, they defend their beliefs because if those ideals are challenged then they have to contemplate new idealogies. You try and make Tool look more meaningful to try and belittle my taste.
Either that or you're not that complicated...

Ummm, I'm not sure if I should respond because I don't know if you're reply was meant for me...if it is then I guess you read a little more into my post then you probally should have.

I guess to start things off I would like you to recall the sentence that I said you had "poor taste". I suppose because not everyone agrees with you or has the same opinion as yours that means that we are attacking you. Hmmm....who is the one getting defensive here?

You mentioned that because I classified Tool as having more meaningful lyrics that I was ignorant. You are correct as to say that my statement was an opinion, that it was. But I guess because my opinion did not agree with yours, that makes me an idiot. Well, I suppose I am. How stupid of me to form my own opinions when I could have just had the same ones as yours, because obviously your opinions are of the elite.

Your post absolutely makes no sense to me. I have no idea where you get these ideas that I am attacking you. Instead of whining that I have different opinions than yours maybe you should try and defend you position (or maybe you can't so that is why you responded the way you did, also a simple defense mechanism that humans have). It would have been absolutely delightful if you could have responded to my post with YOUR opinions on why you think YOU are right. That is how alot of interesting conversations/friendly arguements work. Instead you took this way to seriously as if I kicked your dog and now you have left me physically ill.
