La la la, I'm not listening, my head is too full of anger and sadness! Lol. Just kidding. Obviously anger and bliss are only 2 emotional fields included in a lot of music, but don't classify me into the category of people that "only see two possibilities of lyirics as happy or sad." Man, I listen to so much other stuff and understand that thought provoking matter is very powerful. But when you break it all down it will all end up making you feel a certain way: good or bad. You could feel inspired which would equal feeling good or you could feel sick which would equal sadness. Or you could listen to Mudvayne and feel either way. Anyway. Good point, but it can be debated as can every other post including this one. later

A) Artists have been singing about their vulnerability for years (since the dawn of music).

B) I do agree that Tool shoud not be included with Linkin Park, Taproot, and Korn (even though I do enjoy those bands)

C) Tool has put more thought behind their lyrics than Sepultura, Fear Factory, and RATM combined. And if you want to know why Angus probally commented on why RATM is hypocritcal then it is most likely because they are yelling about the evils of money and the music industry yet they are employed by a major record label. Knowing that then many many other contradictions the band lives become evident.

Obviously this is all opinion so don't take to serious, I don't mean to be a ******* to you PanteraFan.

While Ryan ( Mudvayne bassist ) is pretty good I thing in these forums he is quite overrated. While I do like his bass style with the heavy music (hell , the fretless tone is just a personal favorite) he doesn't come across as anything special , most of his basslines were easy to figure out , but to his credit the way he uses them in this genre is innovative and he's earned my respect there..... he's a solid bass player but I think he's given too much credit....... want fretless , get some Jaco.

Personally I dont think he is that great. I play in a Christian Hard Metal/Punkcore band just like Mudvayne, and I play riffs on my bass almost the same style. I don't know why you all are crapping your pants over this guy for and saying he is so awesome...I have only seen the video like 4 or 5 times and I like the style and all, its fun to play like that, but really he is not that great! Why dont you guys try these bands if you like Mudvayne:

ShagEB, would you mine explaining a little more just what it is you mean. Those are very nice comments if there was some backing to them. I'd love to comment on them as to what my thoughts are but the only thing I can tell from your statement is that you heard one Maynard song (which was Judith) which isn't even a Tool song. Ever heard of Bill Hicks?

Evidently you do not "listen" to the lyrics. I was not referring to Judith by Perfect Circle, but rather songs like Sober. Though all of their songs may not be about religion a majority seem to be. I am not a religious fanatic, and I do not judge people by their beliefs ( Tool kicks Ass). I just find it amusing that some people find things thought provoking when they don't understand what it means. So break out those Tool and Rage Against the Machine CD's and listen to the lyrics not the music then get back to me. As far as Bill Hicks is concerned he must be a very enlightened soul.

While im sure your Christian Hard Metal Funkpunkcore Country Emo is outstanding, would you mind posting some mp3s? I've yet to see someone say "I play exactly like this and better" (or something of that nature) and have the balls to back it up...or the skill.

The thing that makes Ryknow so outstanding (for me, anyway) is that he knows WHEN to step forward and when to step back. He's not wanking Dream Theatre-style 100% of the time, so when he does add a fill, it just sounds that much stronger. That does it for me, despite his, um, "unique" tone.

Oh, yeah, and the fact that he's so freaking tight with the drummer!

Wow! 177 replies! My thread rules mwahahahaha! Anyway, fretted or fretless Ryknow is awesome. Maybe on the next record he'll try double bass - maybe even bowing a double! Now that would be kewl. I've always loved the dark sound of drawn out bowed double bass notes. they just scream sadness! later cats

You guys should listen to some older stuff...IE: Weather report, dixie dregs, stanley clarke...now that is how you come to appreciate good music.
