Mudvyane bassist is badass

Hey Angus,
What's this MTV X thing you are talking about?? I haven't heard of that one yet.

MTV2 used to be decent--they never used to have commercials on it, but you are right, it does suck ass now.
--------------------------------------------------
Ryknow has some darn cool stuff. I don't know about the video for "Dig", kinda goofy. But his playing is top notch on the songs that I have heard. Guess I am gonna have to start paying more attention to this guy.

I just saw and recorded their live concert on Mtv2 and I am loving it!! I just can't stop loving these guys! talk about energy. Does anyone have a tab or something for Internal Primates or Death Blooms?? or anything else cuz I have no idea what Ryknow is doing in the verses and from the footage from their concert he's certainly not just hiting root notes. he was goin mad all over the fretboard! anyways..

Ryknow rules!!

RL311, MTV-X is an all rock channel with absolutely no commercials, and very very little space-filler tripe in between, unlike MTV-2 (terrible channel).

I don't know what channels you have, but my MTV is 63, MTV-2 is 64, and my MTV-X is 472. Its an AWESOME channel.

He only said that he uses a .130 for the low C. So you can only assume that he uses about a .150 for the low G. I really don't know how much he uses that low G string though. It sounds to me like all of their stuff is played on the low C string and it seems like it would be easier for him to simply tune BEADG so he could play a lot of the higher melodic stuff in a more comfortable position and still get all the lows he needs. Thats how I play (or at least try to play) their songs. He also said that He would rather use lighter gauge strings for tone but he can't because of the low tuning. I suppose
he does it that way for the 2 open string octaves. I personally would love to hear him play in standard 5 string tuning and hear the tone he really loves.

PS. hey Angus, what's the situation with those tabs? you still workin them out? they are confusing I'm sure! later cats

Ryknow!!

Talent aside, Mudvayne is image. A mini-Slipknot if you will. I bought the CD a long while back and was impressed by the bass playing but the album as a whole lacked orginality which made it bland (yes, that is right, BLAND.) It has its moments but is mostly a leach to the big fish that is Slipknot.

Mudvayne are actually very cool. I heard Dig and the main thing that attracted me to them are the bass and the double-kick drumming. It seems to me that all of Mudvayne are very talented musicians while retaining the intensity of working together. Too many bands rely on the chemistry they have as a unit, and don't express themselves indivdually(example: Slipknot). I think that the weakest link is the guitarist, as Chad has amazing vocal range and can manipulate his voice extremely well. His singing is on par with Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Serj Tankian of System Of A Down(now <b>there's</b> versatility). The drummer(sPaG) is solid and Ryknow is, well, Ryknow.
And for all you image-bashers: what a band looks like means <b>so</b> much, doesn't it? It's not the least bit shallow to use what a band looks like as an argument for not liking them:rolleyes:

I think most people that talk so much $h!t about all the people who like bands and music for the wrong reasons are guilty of this. I myself hate all the people who like bands and music for the wrong reasons but I make it a point to judge music on it's own merits and ignore the image of the band no matter how rediculous or cheesy it is.

Who was using their image as an arguement for not liking them? They can have whatever image they want, but they rely on it too much. Maybe Mudvayne shouldn't be so shallow and actually put out some original music.

I saw MuDvAyNe live this weekend and Damn their good. Really tight and energetic stage show. Ryknow is simply incredible very original and very cool. I usually get bored hearing slap bass with heavey music a lot of times I just don't think it fit's but the way he used it certainly does. He also does a lot of stuff that kinda sounds like he's slapping but he's not he's kinda slamming the strings down with his fingers in different patterns. His tone kills too. Makes me want to add a Warwick to my collection. A side note their singers goatee can't be real can it? I mean it's like past his knees!!!!!!!!
