Murder Porn

I was thinking of that Nic Cage film, 8mm, which I recently watched.

My stepfather watches some sort of forensics show when he's not watching old-timey Westerns, and I'm concerned that the morbidity of it is going to warp his already twisted psyche.

OTOH, I watch crime dramas based on actual events, but never those ones that come on TV on Friday night.

I recently watched An American Crime with Ellen Page.

The fact that these stories actually happened makes them scarier.

Monster is a good one, with Charlize Theron.

Don't watch 'em, all we have is streaming TV. JC mainly puts youtube concerts on(Playstation 3 app) or music documentaries.

Don't watch 'em because life is too short to waste on that. I've watched animals(wild or not) fight and kill, lived in New Orleans and read/saw/lived through stuff there, and have learned enough to know that there are simply some sick <deleted expletive> in the world who can and will expedite your travel to the morgue. Many will do so with no fear, feeling, or emotion and some will because they enjoy it.

Strangely, Forensic Files puts me to sleep like no other show can. Despite the lurid material, it's so formulaic that my brain tunes out within minutes of starting an episode.

Aside from that, I'm a fan of the true crime TV genre in general. Some of it is compelling and well-done. And some of it is garbage, but that's the case with all TV. There are also a few good true crime podcasts that I listen to.

Not sure how I feel about the "murder porn" label, though. Considering that real murder porn exists (something I unfortunately learned via a podcast recently), it seems like a misnomer.

I have watched 48hrs if nothing else is on. Usually end up being shocked/saddened by how many lives are destroyed over senseless bs and the fact that individuals will sit there and tell lie after lie no matter how much evidence to the contrary is presented to them. That being said its a sad reality that exists.

LOL! That just blew my mind because I have the same exact response. I put it on when I want to take a nap, and I never make it even half way through. It's like a heavy duty sleeping pill.

RE the murder porn title, you might be right. I should have said true crime or something else. That's why I put the examples - I thought that's what it was generally referred to as. We might be discussing 2 different things. Not talking about snuff films.

HA! I was going to post this almost exactly. I have to have the TV on to go to sleep or my brain will spin all night long. The best thing on to do that is Forensic Files. HLN runs it all night every night.
My wife once asked if she had anything to worry about because I watched this all the time. I told her, quite the opposite. It is obvious I couldn't get away with it, so you are save...for now.
